AT&T’s Flying COWs have been in use for a few years now and the latest model offers improved weather resistance.

The tethered drones from AT&T are designed to stay up in the air indefinitely as they are supplied with power through the tether.

The Flying Cows helps to restore phone and internet service in disaster-struck areas when the regular service has been interrupted.

The latest Flying COWs with improved weather resistance have been outfitted with thermal cameras to help first responders locate people in need of help. The thermal imaging capability of these latest drones can also help firefighters identify hotspots in burning buildings.

Business Insider reports that the Flying COWs have been put into service to help restore cellphone and internet connectivity in Louisiana in the wake of Hurricane Ida.
