DJI commercial drone market share falls dramatically in 2021

In 2021, DJI's worldwide market share in professional drone sales to corporate users has dropped considerably. The newest edition of 's Drone Market Sector Report 2021 demonstrates this. DJI still accounted for 70% of professional drone sales in 2020. In 2021, this figure had dropped to 54%, a drop of more than 15%. The DJI commercial drone market share decrease benefits companies like Autel Robotics, Skydio, and Parrot.

DJI commercial drone market share falls dramatically in 2021

Every year, the market is surveyed by the research firm DroneAnalyst. The most current market study includes 1,800 respondents from 110 working in 39 different industries. A set of qualitative interviews were done in addition to the quantitative study.

According to the Drone Market Sector Report 2021, DJI is battling to retain its business market share. DJI has continuously emerged as the industry leader in recent years, but this is changing: in 2021, DJI's market share was 54%, 15% lower than the previous year. This might be due to the anti-Chinese sentiment in the , which has resulted in a restriction on the use of DJI drones by government entities.

It is striking how splintered the competition is. Autel Robotics has risen to second place in terms of market share, although it only accounts for 7% of total sales. This is followed by Parrot, which has a 3% market share. Another interesting piece of information is that 19% of respondents specify ‘other brand.' This is most likely referring to highly specialized drones made by relatively obscure firms.

DJI still the king of the consumer drone market

DJI is still the market leader by far in the consumer market. The world's largest drone maker controls more than 94 percent of the consumer , thanks to the launch of easily accessible and reasonably priced drones such as the Mini SE, Mini 2, and Mavic Air 2.

Another reason for DJI's consumer market domination is the scarcity of rival goods, however, companies such as , and Autel appear to be catching up in this area with the launch of new, lightweight drones, such as the mini drone.
