DJI Mini 4 prototype designed by drone enthusiast

Check out these computer generated images of a prototype designed by drone enthusiast Chen Ji Gazer. Clearly these images do not show a ‘real' DJi prototype, but it is rare to see design suggestions that are this well done. Let's take a closer look.

The first image shows the DJI Mini 4 with its arms out. The suggested drone design has arms that both fold downward as well as slide out to get the props further away from the body of the unmanned aircraft. The props are mounted underneath the arms and it seems that the blades of the front props might overlap with the props in the back. It seems like the design needs a little fine-tuning there.

On the top of the DJI Mini 4, we see a white DJI logo on the battery. The battery design is very similar to the 's battery design it seems. It appears to slide in from behind. On the front of the drone we see two forward facing obstacle avoidance sensors that double as rearward facing sensors as well.

The camera and gimbal construction seems to be inspired by DJI's latest camera drones as well. The DJI Mini 4 would seemingly feature a large sensor camera. On the side of the drone we see the words Mini 4 Z displayed.

The second rendering shows us the DJI Mini 4 from behind. We see the battery with four LEDs and an on/off button. And also the rearward-facing obstacle avoidance sensors are clearly visible. Underneath the battery we can see two legs on which the drone rests.

The third and final renderings shows the ‘prototype' DJI Mini 4 in its folded position. It seems that the propeller blades do indeed overlap. And at this point you can also clearly see that the arms have been retracted and folded.

The renderings were shared by DJI leaker DealsDrone, and OsitaLV separately shared the following drawing and measurements.

Since the drone is labelled DJI Mini 4, we would assume that this would be a sub-250-gram drone. And while it is smart design that is very well rendered, we do not think that it is very realistic that we will see the world's largest drone maker come out with a foldable drone like this.

Many of DJI latest DJI drones follow the tried-and-true DJI Mavic design philosophy with arms that fold and swivel. Only the DJI Avata, and the DJI FPV have very distinctly different designs, when looking at the consumer drones.

Let us know in the comments below what you think of this very well executed design study of the DJI Mini 4 camera drone. Is this a better design than the DJI Mini 3?
