Drone pilot detained after flying UAS over Swedish King Carl XVI Gustaf’s house

On Sunday, a Drohnenpilot was detained in Sweden after flying his unmanned aircraft over the home of King Carl XVI Gustaf.

According to Polizei, the man was apprehended near Drottningholm Castle one of Sweden’s Royal Palaces on Sunday afternoon.

Die Drohnenpilot is accused of breaking the rules that govern the preservation of important sites, such as King Carl XVI Gustaf’s and Queen Silvia’s private palace.

“We are not verifying this person’s nationality; we are only confirming the arrest of a male,” Stockholm police spokesperson Olasterling told AFP.

The Swedish internal intelligence agency, Säpo has taken over the investigation, reports Euronews.

News of the arrest of the Drohnenpiloten comes as various drones were spotted over Swedish nuclear power facilities and other sensitive locations earlier this month.

In mid-January, a ‘military drone’ was seen flying over the Swedish parliament, government buildings, and the royal palace in central Stockholm

It is unclear who was behind these unauthorized drone flights.
