DJI Mavic 3 rumored to have optical image stabilization (OIS)

The eagerly awaited DJI Mavic 3 is rumored to have Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and is now scheduled for September launch after some small issues have been resolved.

DJI Mavic 3 rumored to have OIS

Earlier today, @OsitaLV tweeted drawings from the Chinese National Intellectual Property Administration showing a new optical image stabilization (OIS) system that DJI is working on.

After some more research and with the help of industry insiders, DroneXL has learned that this new OIS might indeed be for the eagerly awaited drone that is now due to be released in September.

Dji Mavic 3 Rumored To Have Optical Image Stabilization And Scheduled For September Launch

As I wrote some time ago for DroneDJ, the DJI Phanom series is dead and will be replaced by the new DJI Mavic 3. So forget those ‘DJI Phantom 5’ prototype photos with interchangeable lenses that surfaced some time ago.

El nuevo Mavic 3 will take things to a whole new level with an interchangeable lens system with optical image stabilization. Among other things, this new drone will likely feature 360-obstacle avoidance, an MFT camera system, and will be quite a bit larger than the current Mavic 2 Pro/Zoom series.

DJI’s new OIS system for the Mavic 3 will not only help the drone to create even smoother video footage but it should make a big difference for low-light photography where slower shutter speeds are used.

After some smaller issues related to obstacle avoidance hardware and other software challenges linked to the use of dual IMUs, the release for the DJI Mavic 3 is now scheduled for September.

Unfortunately, we will not see the new DJI Mavic 3 in time for the summer. But on a positive note, the DJI Mavic 3 seems to become a monster of a drone that I can’t wait to get my hands on!

  1. I hope they don’t make the same mistake they did with Air 2 with the Mavic 3. Please have the Smart Controller in-sync from the start with the Mavic 3. Still waiting for DJI to get their act together with firmware for the Air 2…..smh!
