Co-Founder and CEO of Flytrex, Yariv Bash Is very optimistic about the future of deliveries by drone. According to him, his company will be making thousands of deliveries by drone to customers by early 2021.

In Reykjavík, , Flytrex has already successfully completed thousands of drone deliveries since 2018. In North Dakota, at the King’s Walk golf course, Flytrex offers its drone delivery service now as well. Additional drone delivery tests are planned for a pilot in North Carolina.

The drone that Flytrex uses for its delivery services is a hexacopter, capable of carrying a 6 1/2 pound payload up to 40 mph over a range of 6 miles. The unmanned aircraft uses a tethering system to lower its package when it arrives at its destination. The drone can make about 15 deliveries per hour compared to two or three deliveries per hour for a human driver.

“But the interesting part is on the inside,” said Bash about his drones, according to The Spoon. “There are multiple levels of redundancy. It can sustain motor loss, battery loss, communication failure. If everything fails, there is an independent parachute.”

While deliveries by drone seem to get more popular during the pandemic, Bash says that all stakeholders are taking the safety of drones very seriously.

“The FAA is not willing to lower the bar on safety,” Bash said, “but it is willing to work a lot harder with you. On the local governmental levels, so far, everyone is really happy and wants us to start operating in their areas.”

Flytrex is planning to expand its services by partnering with smaller existing aviation companies in new markets. Flytrex has raised $11.5 million in funding to realize its plans.

“We expect to be servicing hundreds of clients in a few months and then thousands early next year,” Bash said.
