Drones used to capture Mexico’s drug boss ‘El Marro’

Drones were used to capture one of Mexico’s top drug bosses, who never slept at the same location for two nights in a row. After receiving a tip, Mexican authorities monitored four houses for 72 hours before launching the raid that led to the capture of ‘El Marro.’

Reuters reports that the arrest and capture of an alleged drug trafficker and fuel thief Jose Antonio Yepez, alias “El Marro,” or “The Mallet,” last Sunday, has removed one of the two bosses battling for control of Guanajuato state, an industrial powerhouse clouded by bloody gang wars. Mexican Defense Secretary Luis Cresencio Sandoval on Tuesday said authorities were keeping an eye on four possible addresses when they got word that Yepez arrived at one of the homes in Guanajuato.
“Considering the information that ‘El Marro’ didn’t sleep two nights in the same place, also the presence of [a black truck and food delivery] to that address that confirmed the tip we had,” leading authorities to obtain search warrants, Sandoval said, according to the news outlet.
To capture the top drug boss, authorities used two fully-manned Cougar helicopters, drones, and hundreds of soldiers. During the raid, six men and three women were arrested, including ‘El Marro’, and both high and low-caliber weapons, a grenade launcher, $6,000 in cash were seized, and a 52-year-old kidnapped woman was rescued.
