Autel launches Dragonfish VTOL and EVO II RTK drones at CES 2021

During this week’s virtual CES 2021, Autel Robotics launches the Dragonfish VTOL and the EVO II RTK drones both of which we already knew we’re coming.

This year Autel Robotics introduces two new drones at CES 2021, the Dragonfish VTOL and the EVO II RTK drones.

The Autel Dragonfish VTOL drone

The Dragonfish VTOL (vertical-take-off-and-landing) aircraft is a fixed-wing drone designed for the enterprise market that can fly for up to two hours and transmit video over a distance of 18 miles. The VTOL drone is targeting customers in the inspection, law enforcement, traffic monitoring, and energy markets. Autel promises that the drone can be launched in under five minutes and can carry various payloads including thermal cameras. By default, the drone comes equipped with a 4K, 20x zoom optically stabilized zoom camera and lens combination. The Autel Dragonfish can use if unique tilt-rotor design to take and land vertically.

Autel anticipates that the Dragonfish will be expandable and flexible to fit into virtually any workflow but the following payloads are expected to be the initial payloads released for the Dragonfish:

• 4K Dual Sensor – 4K 20x Stabilized Optical Zoom + 48MP Wide Angle
• Triple Sensor – 4K 20x Stabilized Optical Zoom + 48MP Wide Angle + FLIR 640×512 Radiometric Thermal
• Multispectral – 5 Multispectral Sensors (2MP) + RGB Wide Angle (48MP)
• Third-Party Payloads – Payload SDK program for third parties to develop unique payload solutions

The Autel EVO II RTK drone

The Autel EVO II RTK had leaked before as well. There will two versions of what appears to be an EVO II Pro and EVO II Dual 640T with an RTK module mounted on top to provide centimeter-level accuracy during mapping operations. Autel will also provide an RTK base station with A-RTK and GNSS support.

The EVO II RTK also allows for PPK (Post-Processing Kinematic) and time-synchronization so that operators can use the solutions that best fit the mission at any given time.

The additional weight of the RTK module reduces the already excellent flight time of the EVO II RTK to 36 minutes.
