Second man charged with flying drone near pre-Super Bowl events
To help keep the Super Bowl LV event secure, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) had issued a temporary flight restriction (TFR) for the airspace around Tampa.
However, on Saturday, FBI agents witnessed the drone flying in the downtown Tampa area a few miles away from the Super Bowl stadium where the Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat the Kansas City Chiefs in the championship game Sunday night.
The agents were able to locate drone pilot Kevin Canty, who informed them he is a Part 107, FAA-certified operator and he was aware that a TFR was in force. The 33-year-old Canty of West Palm Beach now faces up to one year in federal prison.
A Review of the drone’s flight path showed it had traveled near public events related to the Super Bowl, reports CBS Miami.
Last week another man, 33-year-old Henry Alejandro Jimenez of Orlando, was charged with piloting an unmanned aircraft in restricted airspace in the Tampa area. He was arrested last Wednesday.
No connection seems to be present between the two pilotos de drones.
