FCC filing shows DJI Osmo Mobile 4 handheld gimbal might be released soon

In an FCC filing, we can see that a DJI Osmo Mobile 4 is in the works. The filing shows up in the FCC database a little less than twelve months from the launch of the DJI Osmo Mobile 3.

FCC filing shows DJI Osmo Mobile 4 is in the works

Today, an Dépôt auprès de la FCC shows us the label and label placement for the DJI Osmo Mobile 4. Unfortunately, the FCC filing doesn’t give us a heck of a lot of information other than the label itself and the location of the label on the handheld gimbal.

On the label itself, we see the name SZ DJI OsmoTechnology Co., Ltd., and the reference DJI OM 4, indicating that this indeed will be for the DJI Osmo Mobile 4.

Battery information is also displayed on the label. The DJI Osmo Mobile 4 will use the same power supply as the DJI Osmo Mobile 3, a 7.2V, 2450mAh battery. This should be a 18650 Li-ion battery that provides the OM3 an operating time of 15 hours max under ideal conditions. The model number is OK100.

The label itself seems to be placed on the backside of the gimbal arm. The DJI Osmo Mobile 3 introduced the foldable gimbal arm and we would expect the successor to keep that functionality while adding other new or improved options.

Expected release date and pricing of the DJI Osmo Mobile 4

The fact that these images have shown up in the FCC database may indicate a release of this new product very soon. The DJI Osmo Mobile 3 was released on August 13 of last year, so there’s a chance we might see the Osmo Mobile 4 this summer still. If that does not happen, I would suspect that a release before the start of this year’s shopping season is highly likely.

As far as pricing goes, DJI priced the OM3 very aggressively at $119. Assuming that the form factor and capabilities are comparable, we expect the OM4 to be priced around the same point, possibly even less expensive.

A release of the DJI Osmo Mobile 3 that coincides with the launch of the DJI Mavic 3 seems highly unlikely when you’re looking at DJI’s previous drone launches and DJI Osmo introductions.
