Officials of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are looking for the owner of a DJI Mavic Mini drone that nearly hit an Aero Med helicopter while landing at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

A near-collision between a DJI Mavic Mini drone and an Aero Med helicopter is being investigated by federal authorities. The close call took place when the helicopter was landing at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.

According to Spectrum Health, the drone was hovering over the hospital’s rooftop landing site when the Aero Med helicopter landed. One of the helicopter’s crew members was able to get a hold of the unmanned aircraft.

According to a Spectrum Health news release, the identity of the owner of the ultra-light DJI Mavic Mini (249 grams) is still unknown.

The near-collision has been reported by Aero Med to local air traffic control (ATC), and a report was filed with the FAA.

Anyone with information about the drone is asked to call the local FAA office at 616.954.6657. More information about how to safely fly drones can be found on the FAA’s website.

Spectrum Health did not say exactly when the incident happened but it is believed to be in mid-August, reports WoodTV.
