DJI Ronin RS2, RSC2, RavenEye Image Transmission System appear in FCC filing

Lost in all the news of last week are the FCC filings that show us the DJI Ronin RS2, RSC2, and the new Ronin RavenEye Image Transmission System (wireless video transmitter). Let’s take a closer look at these filings from SZ DJI Osmo Technology Co., Ltd., and see it provides any new information on these new DJI Ronin devices.

About the DJI Ronin RS2

Dépôt auprès de la FCC ID 2ANDR-P022004 shows us the dimensions and information printed on the required label for the DJI Ronin RS2. The label shows the name of the product as the DJI RS2. This might be an indication that DJI is following the same naming convention as they did with the DJI OM4, dropping the name Osmo, or in this case Ronin, altogether. However, a DJI teaser photo of the original announcement still shows the Ronin name prominently displayed, so we’ll have to wait and see.

The label for the DJI Ronin RS2 also shows us that a higher voltage battery will be used than in its predecessor. The RS2 has a 15.4 V, 1950 mAh, 30.03 Wh battery versus a 14.4 V, 2400 mAh, 34.56 Wh battery for the original Ronin S. We expect the DJI Ronin RS2 to be more capable and have a longer battery life than the original Ronin S. A leaked photo showing the new DJI Ronin RS2 with a RED camera plus cinema lens may indicate that this new gimbal may make the much bulkier Ronin 2 obsolete.

The label also shows us the Anatel logo indication WiFi connectivity, likely to be working with the new DJI Ronin RavenEye Image Transmission System.

About the DJI Ronin RSC2

FCC filing 2ANDR-P102006 shows us the required label and its dimensions. The label for the DJI Ronin RSC2 also shows us that a higher capacity battery will be used than in its predecessor. The RSC2 has a 7.2 V, 3400 mAh, 24.48 Wh battery versus a 7.2 V, 2450 mAh, 17.74 Wh battery for the original Ronin SC. The original offered a battery life of 11 hours and while we expect the RSC2 to last longer some of that power will also be needed for the stronger motors to carry heavier cameras.

About the DJI Ronin RavenEye Image Transmission System

FCC filing 2ANDR-WV0012004 shows us an illustration of the hardware and the label for the new DJI Ronin RavenEye Image Transmission System and its location around what seems to be a hot shoe mount on the actual device with which it will be mounted on the camera. On both sides of the Ronin RavenEye Image Transmission System device, we see two small antennas. The hardware is relatively small measuring around 3.5″ by 2.5″. We suspect that it will be powered through the hot shoe mount and that no external cables will be required to transmit the footage. It might still need a cable to get the footage from the actual camera. We are not sure. The label shows the same Anatel logo we also saw on the RS2 label indicating that the two devices will be able to communicate with each other through WiFi. We suspect that the RavenEye system will allow you to get a live camera feed remotely as well as the ability to control the gimbal while it is placed in a hard-to-reach area close to the action.

A photo that was tweeted by OsitaLV shows part of the DJI Ronin RavenEye device. It mentions ‘wireless video transmitter’ underneath the official name.
