Mavic 3 rumored to feature mechanical shutter and enhanced low-light performance

Although we will almost certainly have to wait for this new DJI drone, the Mavic 3 is rumored to feature a mechanical shutter option, enhanced low light performance to reduce noise in both video and photo, new color technology, a wider field of view, but no micro 4/3 lens system.

Mavic 3 rumored to feature a mechanical shutter and enhanced low-light performance

Before we get into more detail, I’d like to point out the following. This information comes from a long-time trusted source within DJI. However, this does not mean that these features are set in stone. DJI is known for changing its mind, adjusting features, and even delaying product launches. Remember the delayed launch of the DJI Mavic 2 Pro and Zoom and the sudden appearance of the HQ FOV for video recording for the M2P? Exactly. This article is based on the best information we available on the eagerly awaited right now. The final product may or may not be different. If this kind of uncertainty is too much for you to handle, I would urge you to stop reading. For everybody else, let’s take a closer look.

The new DJI Mavic 3 is said to offer the following features:

  • A ‘mechanical shutter option’, indicating again that there will likely be two versions of the M3.
  • ‘Multiple new software algorithms made by Hasselblad’s team,’ referring to Hasselblad’s Natural Colour Solution (HNCS).
  • A ‘larger field of view.’ the current Mavic 2 Pro offers a Field of View (FOV) of about 77° according to the specs ici.
  • It will offer ‘enhanced low light performance and reduced noise,’ in photo and video.
  • It will NOT feature a micro 4/3 lens system.

Furthermore, we were told that the Mavic 3 was originally planned to be released together with a Mavic 3 Enterprise Edition featuring a new FLIR camera. Unfortunately, that has been put on hold as well.

That’s is all we have on the Mavic 3 for now. Yesterday we reported on the expected ‘delayed’ release of the Mavic 3 until next summer depending on the finalization of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Remote ID for Drones rules.
