Skydio introduces the Skydio Flight School

Today, Skydio introduces the Skydio Flight School on YouTube to ‘help you get comfortable with your new flying-robot buddy.’ The first episode is presented by Nicole Bonk, Head of Flight Testing at Skydio.
Skydio introduces the Skydio Flight School
Skydio Flight School is the first in series of videos to help opérateurs de drones get comfortable with flying their Skydio 2 drones. A new episode will be posted on Youtube every week until the end of the year, so that means that we will have at least another 15 episodes or so to go.
In this first episode, Nicole showed us how to launch and land the Skydio 2 drone and provided a few warnings, such as:
- Avoid wires, thin branches, and airports
- Avoid public roads
- Don’t fly over people
Nicole also points out that you make sure to clean the lenses of the many cameras on the Skydio 2 drone as these are crucial for its obstacle avoidance and self-flying capabilities.
it will be interesting to see what other topics will be discussed in the following episodes and whether Nicole will include flying the Skydio 2 under a Partie 107 Certificate for commercial drone operations, which we suspect might not be legal according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) rules.
Here’s the video, have a look.

How NOT to use your Skydio 2
While the Skydio’s ability to avoid non-moving (!) obstacles is very impressive indeed, this video is a great example of how NOT to use your Skydio 2 drone. Skydio warns in their manual that the Skydio 2 may not avoid moving objects such as cars. The drone maker also wants that the Skydio 2 should never be used over public roadways.
“Cars, boats, balls, animals, other drones, other people, or similar moving objects may not be avoided if they’re moving,” says Skydio.
Your best source for safe, responsible drone flying and all the regulations is the website of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
