DJI Core Crypto Engine secures data on DJI drones and is now recognized by Commerce Dept.

DJI said that the US Department of Commerce and the Canadian Center for Cyber Security have recognized its DJI Core Crypto Engine.
In the announcement, the world’s largest camera drone maker says that the validation of the DJI Core Crypto Engine shows DJI’s “commitment to customer data and privacy.”
The DJI Core Crypto Engine passed the Cryptographic Module Validation Program (CMVP) to receive Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2.
FIPS 140-2 compliance, which has been officially validated by the governments of the États-Unis et Canada, has been globally embraced in both the governmental and non-governmental sectors as a useful security standard and practical best practice.
The DJI Core Crypto Engine is a firmware hybrid cryptographic module that provides foundational security services for the entire platform, including cryptography, key management, platform identity, secure boot, and secure Life Cycle State (LCS).
The standard makes sure the hardware that has been verified complies with certain security standards.
“When it comes to data, DJI has very strong principles around transparent usage, security and privacy. We truly believe that ‘customer data is none of our business’ and understand how important Sécurité des données is for the people, businesses and government agencies that rely on our platforms,” said Christina Zhang, Senior Director of Corporate Strategy at DJI. “This encryption validation is testament to how tirelessly we strive to make customer data and privacy more secure by tightening existing systems, innovating new ones and embracing new methods and technologies.”
DJI Core Crypto Engine for all DJI drones
The camera drone maker continues to say that from now on, all “DJI drones containing the DJI Core Crypto Engine ensure that whether flown for leisure or operated for business, customers are treated to trusted, authoritative, and globally recognized security standards.”
Government and enterprise customers should be pleased to learn that DJI drones can now be FIPS 140-2 compliant. And the encryption validation should go a long way in reducing the data security fears that have plagued DJI in recent years.
