Europe’s Largest Defense Tech Hackathon Showcases Breakthrough Drone Detection and Navigation Solutions
A groundbreaking Defense Tech Hackathon in Paris has demonstrated significant advances in Technologie des drones and counter-drone solutions, with over 170 participants developing 34 innovative projects aimed at addressing critical defense challenges, according to European Defense Tech on X.
Winning Teams Tackle Critical Drone Challenges
The competition’s top honor went to a remarkable advancement in counter-drone technology. The winning team, led by Gregor Lenz, developed an automated system for detecting and tracking UAVs and Shahed drones in difficult lighting conditions – a crucial capability for modern air defense systems.
Taking second place, a team headed by Hugo Biais introduced an innovative magnetic navigation system for submarine drones, potentially revolutionizing underwater operations by providing reliable navigation in GPS-denied environments.
The third-place project, developed by Antoine Besset and Adhémar de Senneville, focused on anti-helicopter mine technology, representing a significant development in aerial defense systems.
Real-World Applications and Industry Support
“The challenges were based on real-world problems gathered from our partners, who have delivered solutions to the frontline,” stated European Defense Tech in their announcement. The projects addressed critical needs ranging from underwater reconnaissance to swarm coordination in GPS-denied environments.
The event’s success was bolstered by extensive industry support, including mentorship from organizations like BRAVE1ua, Mutable Tactics, and quantum drones. HelsingAI played a particularly crucial role, committing an entire team to mentor participants on-site.
The next hackathon, which will take place on February 13-16, 2025, in Munich, Allemagne.
