So, this is a perfect story for a Friday afternoon. Mark Fisher who runs drone business Vision Media Productions in Providence, RI reached out to me this week and told me about a very special drone that he just got his hands on.

It is called the Bielik drone and it was made in Poland a few years ago to help reduce theft that occurred at Poland’s largest rail carrier company, PKP Cargo. The drone apparently was successful in doing so as it reportedly helped reduce theft by almost 50%.

The Bielik drone is equipped with a full HD 18x zoom camera with a triple-axis gimbal stabilizer. Furthermore, the device has a fast processor and a real-time system, allowing you to provide virtually zero latency in the transmission of signals, according to a news article in Railway Pro. Data sent between desktop control and the drone is encrypted.

“Drones offer huge support in our daily work. When flying, they are practically inaudible, and thanks to their colors and small size they are difficult to see. They can operate in all weather conditions and at night because they are equipped with thermal imaging cameras that allow you to see a man from a distance of almost a kilometer,” says PKP Cargo president Libiszewski.

The Bielik quadcopter

The Bielik quadcopter was developed by the Dron House S.A. company in the area of Warsaw. The drone maker emphasizes the excellent aerodynamic characteristics and points to the high-quality carbon fiber that is partly responsible for that. The Bielik drone weighs around 7.7 pounds and can be flown in the rain and low temperatures. It seems that the Bielik was introduced in 2017, however, we are not sure if it is still in production at this point in time.

As I said at the beginning of this article Mark and I would like to get this drone in the air, so if you can help us get the missing parts, i.e. a battery and a remote controller, that would be great! We’ll be sure to make another video about what it’s like to fly the Bielik drone from Poland! Thanks!
