Drone Display Over Hudson to Illuminate Cancer Awareness Message
A spectacular drone show is set to light up the New York City skyline on Tuesday, July 16, as part of a Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) tribute. The event, aimed at supporting critical cancer research, will take place over the Hudson River, according to a report from W42ST.
Drones Deliver a Powerful Message
The drone display is scheduled to cap off a public viewing party for the MLB All-Star Game at Hudson Yards Public Square and Gardens. This aerial spectacle draws inspiration from the annual Placard Moment that occurs during the game, where stadium attendees hold up signs honoring those affected by cancer.
“Everyone has someone in mind when they think of cancer, which is why we’re leaning into the power of the collective to make an impact far beyond the stadium,” said Rustom Dastoor, executive vice president of Marketing & Communications, Americas, at Mastercard.
A Growing Trend of Drone Shows
This upcoming display marks the third drone show over the Hudson River this year. Previous events included:
- An April display celebrating General Electric’s transformation into three separate companies
- A July 4th show by Macy’s, featuring the American flag, stars, and a countdown to fireworks
These drone performances demonstrate the increasing use of unmanned aerial vehicles for large-scale visual displays, offering a quieter and potentially more environmentally friendly alternative to traditional fireworks.
Supporting Cancer Research Through Technology
The event is sponsored by Mastercard, which has contributed over $70 million to Stand Up To Cancer since 2010. In addition to the drone show, the campaign includes interactive elements such as a photo booth at Saks Fifth Avenue where visitors can create personalized SU2C placards.
DroneXL’s Take
The use of drones for this cancer awareness event showcases the versatility of Drone Technology beyond just photography or delivery services. It demonstrates how drones can be employed for social causes, creating impactful visual displays that capture public attention and promote important messages.
This event aligns with the growing trend of using drone light shows for entertainment and advertising purposes, as seen in the recent World Record for Disneyland Paris and other high-profile events. As drone technology continues to advance, we can expect to see more innovative applications that combine spectacle with social responsibility.
The Stand Up To Cancer drone show not only raises awareness but also highlights the potential of drone technology to create memorable experiences that resonate with audiences on both visual and emotional levels.
