Essential Summer DJI Drone Battery Care Tips
In the sweltering heat of summer, drone enthusiasts need to pay extra attention to their DJI drone battery care routines. As temperatures soar, the risk of battery swelling and damage increases. This article delves into critical steps to maintain drone batteries during the hot season, ensuring they remain in peak condition as suggested by DJI Support.
Flying in High Temperatures
Flying your drone in high temperatures requires vigilance. The heat can cause batteries to overheat, potentially leading to dangerous situations. DJI advises, “Please monitor the battery temperature during flights in high temperatures.” If your app reports a warning, either descend, fly to the nearest landing area, or hover at a low altitude until the warning disappears. It’s crucial to land the drone as soon as possible after the battery has cooled down.
After the flight, the battery might be too hot to charge immediately. DJI recommends waiting until the battery temperature cools to 104°F (40°C) or below before resuming charging.
Daily Care
Proper daily care for your drone battery can prevent damage and extend its lifespan. Always store your battery in a dry and cool place, away from heat sources or liquids. DJI emphasizes, “Avoid placing the battery near heat sources or liquids, and do not store or transport it with metal objects.”
Direct sunlight, fire, and water are major hazards. Similarly, avoid contact with metal objects like keys, coins, or screws, which can cause short circuits.
Long-term Storage
For long-term storage, DJI suggests keeping the battery at a 40% – 65% state of charge and performing a complete charge-discharge cycle every three months. This practice helps in maintaining the battery’s health and prevents swelling. According to DJI, complete a charge-discharge cycle by fully charging the battery, then discharging it to 0-8%, and recharging it again.
Swollen batteries are a common issue due to improper storage or overuse in high temperatures. If you notice any swelling, “stop using the damaged battery immediately and contact DJI Support or other authorized dealers for further assistance.”
Maintaining your drone battery during hot summer days is essential for safe and efficient flying. By monitoring temperatures, storing batteries properly, and following long-term storage guidelines, you can avoid common issues like swelling and overheating. Always follow DJI’s recommendations to ensure your drone remains in top condition.
