FlytBase announces software platform FlytZip for drone deliveries

Parcel delivery using drones is on the brink of a breakthrough. The hardware is ready. Slowly but surely the regulations are becoming more accommodative. And, the first business cases are also emerging. However, there is a lack of a good hardware-independent software solution with which drone deliveries can be coordinated. FlytBase wants to change that with the new software platform FlytZip.

について ドローン産業 is transforming at an unprecedented pace. Until now, the one-pilot-one-drone model is the most common, with the drone always flying within line of sight. But the future belongs to one-pilot-multiple-drones, with the unmanned aircraft also flying out of sight (BVLOS). Only then are new applications possible at scale, such as drone delivery, or the transport and delivery of packages by drone.

To ensure that all of this runs smoothly, there is a great need for mission planning and fleet management software. And in the case of drone delivery, there must also be a logistics component in that software. Preferably in such a way that the software can be seamlessly integrated into existing logistics chains. That’s exactly what US developer FlytBase’s new software platform FlytZip offers, according to the press release:

“FlytZip is an affordable, out-of-the-box, and hardware-agnostic software application that allows (“operators”) to add pre-built or custom-built drones to their dashboard and perform multiple deliveries simultaneously. Operators have full administrative control over all shipments from start to finish: they can add and manage a set of coordinators, approve and change orders, configure different delivery points for multiple package deliveries, monitor drone telemetry and much more. Numerous flight safety actions can also be set up, such as pre-flight checks, failsafes and geofences for each delivery mission.”

With a view to embedding the software in the customer’s logistics systems, a link with existing stock and ERP systems is also provided. FlytZip also provides facilities for integration with unmanned traffic management systems (UTM) and supporting hardware such as docking stations and smart storage boxes. In addition, FlytZip can control special peripherals such as winches and grabs. Unfortunately, it is not the case that logistics service providers in our regions can immediately get started with FlytZip: the regulations are simply not ready for it yet and U-space is still in its infancy. Not to mention the public acceptance of parcel delivery drones in the urban environment. In these respects, FlytZip still sounds like a distant future.
