Avy unveils improved Aera drone and Drone Response Network

エイヴィ, a Dutch drone manufacturer, has launched an enhanced version of its Aera drone, with a greater flying range and the potential to deliver up to three kilograms of medical products. エイヴィ is also releasing the Drone Response Network, a technology that can deliver drone coverage in a given location immediately. According to Avy creator Patrique Zaman, there is a significant demand for innovative transportation and logistics solutions, and there is more than enough room in the air.

Avy unveils improved Aera drone and Drone Response Network

The Aera is a fixed-wing drone that can do vertical take-off and landing (VTOL). The first-generation Aera was introduced precisely two years ago and has since been thoroughly tested by a number of partners, including ANWB Medical Air Assistance and the Port of Rotterdam.

The new Aera has been upgraded in a variety of ways. For example, the drone can transfer up to 3 kg of medical supplies across a 60-mile trip. The flying duration is limited to 90 minutes. The top speed is 56 mph. Furthermore, the aircraft can fly in rain and winds of up to 5 Bft. Avy is equipped for the new European drone rules and UN criteria for medical air transport due to redundant sensors and communication lines.

The updated Avy Aera is capable of operating independently from a drone box.

Medical transportation

Medicine distribution is one of the new Avy Aera’s proposed purposes. To that aim, the drone is outfitted with a Medkit, a specially designed medical refrigerator. The volume of this Medkit is 4 liters, and it includes a temperature sensor. This keeps medications cold throughout travel for at least 100 minutes, keeping them between 2 and 6 degrees Celsius.

“Avy’s new drone will make a substantial contribution to the 2023 goal of connecting hospitals and labs by air. The new Medkit ensures that we can transport medical supplies at the right temperature and for the first time we can also deploy drones in urban areas, the locations where many hospitals are located,” says Simon Prent, Drone Operations Manager ANWB MAA.

The Avy Aera may also be equipped with an infrared and RGB camera, allowing it to be utilized for the quick identification of wildfires, individuals in trouble at sea, oil spills, and assessing accidents and events. As a result, emergency treatment may be delivered swiftly, safely, and efficiently.

Drone Response Network (DRN)

Aside from the enhanced Aera drone, Avy will also provide a drone box solution. A Drone Response Network is formed by joining a number of docking stations. As a consequence, more ground may be covered. Avy claims that if two drone stations and two drones are properly deployed, the network can cover up to 1,000 km2.
