Amazon’s New MK30 Delivery Drones Set to Take Flight in Phoenix Metro Area
A groundbreaking development in drone delivery is about to unfold in Arizona as Amazon prepares to launch its advanced MK30 drone delivery service in metro Phoenix, according to the Phoenix Business Journal.
FAA Approval Opens New Chapter
Amazon recently secured crucial FAA approvals for beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) operations, marking a significant milestone in drone delivery advancement. This authorization allows the company to operate drones without direct visual contact, expanding their operational capabilities.
Service Details and Coverage
Operating from their Tolleson same-day center, Amazon’s drone delivery service will span a potential 7-mile radius, serving areas including Goodyear, Avondale, Glendale, Phoenix, and Tolleson. The service will run during daylight hours with deliveries promised within one hour. Prime members can access the service for $9.99, while non-members will pay $14.99. The drones are designed to handle packages under 5 pounds.
“Tolleson is at the epicenter of the technology really moving from a test phase to being part of the Amazon ecosystem,” says Zoe Richmond, Amazon spokesperson.
Technical Specifications
The innovative MK30 drones will operate at altitudes up to 400 feet, descending to hover at 12 feet when delivering packages. Customers can choose from over 50,000 items available at the Tolleson facility, including essential items like batteries, hygiene products, medicine, and food.
Expansion Plans
Following successful testing in College Station, 텍사스, Amazon selected Tolleson as the first U.S. location to debut its MK30 drones. The company’s vision extends beyond domestic operations, with programs already in development in Italy and the UK. Additional U.S. locations are expected to be announced next year.
