DJI Mic 2: The Next Evolution in Transmitter Technology
Following the recent surfacing of the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), another surprising product was revealed – the DJI Mic 2 transmitter.
This unexpected revelation prompts the question: Is DJI on the cusp of launching a refined version of the DJI Mic?
According to the FCC listing, it seems DJI might solely be revamping the transmitter at this stage. Notable upgrades appear to be in the realms of design and battery capacity.

A Fresh Take on Design
At first glance, the changes in the DJI Mic 2 transmitter’s design might not be blatantly obvious. But a closer look, juxtaposing the low-res sketch of the Mic 2 transmitter with images of its predecessor, reveals intriguing variations.
The Mic 2 appears a tad shorter yet somewhat bulkier. A striking feature is the inclusion of a third barb on the clip’s transmitter side, possibly ensuring a firmer grip when adorned.

Further design adjustments include a more rounded profile at the top and bottom edges, eliminating the previously sharp edge surrounding the mic module.
Also, the status LED seems to have been repositioned to the side, just above some fresh button additions.
While the overall shape has evolved, so has the button configuration. Distinctly, two circular buttons can be discerned on one side.
One appears to serve as the power button, while the other, adorned with an icon reminiscent of the link button, hints at its function.
This layout alteration implies that the record button might now be located on the opposite side, possibly to avert inadvertent presses of the link button during recording sessions.
A Battery Boost for the DJI Mic 2?
Upon examining the Mic 2 transmitter’s specifications, one finds a 1.39Wh battery, which charges at 5V 0.4A. In contrast, the original DJI Mic transmitter boasts a 1.232Wh battery with a charging rate of 5V 0.5A.
The Mic 2’s increased battery capacity likely stems from its slightly bulkier form, accommodating a more voluminous battery.
Anticipating the Release
While the official launch date remains under wraps, speculation suggests the DJI Mic 2 might debut alongside the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 later this month.
Historically, DJI products listed on the FCC tend to hit the shelves within a few weeks. Releasing the Mic 2 in tandem with the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 seems logical, considering an external mic complements it perfectly.
Compatibility Insights
Given the Mic 2’s distinctive design, it’s plausible that compatibility with the first-generation charging kit might be a no-go.
Insider chatter hints that the Mic 2 could seamlessly integrate with the Pocket 3, eliminating the need for a separate receiver module and relying solely on the USB-C port for charging.
With these advancements, DJI continues to reinforce its commitment to innovation and user-centric design. Only time will tell how the market responds.
