DJI Neo – 5 Tips for Getting the Most Out of Your DJI Drone

Today, I’ll give you five tips on how to get the most out of your . Let’s get started.

YouTube video

Tip 1: Explore Different Control Methods

My first tip is to take advantage of the various ways you can control this drone to get the most out of it. What I mean by that is you can fly this drone without any accessories, directly from the palm of your hand. Simply turn it on and use one of the predefined QuickShots. Choose a QuickShot mode, and the drone will start flying around you, keeping you in the middle of the shot at all times.

If you’re using a phone to control this drone, you can also change some settings, such as the distance the drone flies while keeping you in the middle of the shot or the duration of the shot. These settings depend on the QuickShot mode you have selected.

Using a Phone with Virtual Joystick

If you want more control, you can use your phone with a virtual joystick on the screen. This allows you to fly the drone like a regular drone but with your phone screen as the controller.

Using Remotes

However, I think the most fun you can get out of this drone is by using one of the remotes. Let’s go through them quickly:

  • RC Motion Controller 3: This gives you the freedom to fly FPV with this drone. It’s an easy-to-use tool that makes it feel like you’re flying FPV. Of course, this has to be combined with the Goggles 3, which makes it a bit more expensive, but it’s the cheapest way to enjoy FPV with a drone like this.
  • RC Controller 3: This is the FPV RC 3 and gives you the ability to fly FPV in normal, sport, or manual mode. For me, manual mode is where all the fun is with this drone because it’s small, compact, and has the speed and agility to go through tiny gaps.
  • RC-N3: If you want to control it similarly to a regular DJI drone, you can buy a controller like the RCN3. This remote uses your phone on top to view the camera and can be used in a very similar way to any other Mini or Mavic drone that DJI has ever released.

Tip 2: Remove Prop Guards for Better Performance

If you’re going to be flying FPV with this drone, remove the prop guards. They are meant for safety but can drag you down in terms of speed and agility. To remove them, pop out the little latches under the prop guards. This will give you a bit more speed and better battery life since there isn’t as much force against the props.

Tip 3: Adjust Camera Settings for Better Footage

To get better footage out of the Neo, set your sharpness to minus 2 and the noise reduction to minus 1. This is crucial because the standard footage from the Neo is a bit too sharp and digital. You can always add sharpness later, but you can’t really take it away.

To do this, go into the camera settings and set the sharpness to minus 2 and the noise reduction to minus 1. If you’re flying FPV, you can set these values from the Goggles menu as well.

Tip 4: Adjust Exposure for Better Highlights

With these cameras, especially since we don’t have a flat color profile and the maximum resolution and frame rate is 4K 30fps, the footage can be a bit overexposed. A good tip is to go into the settings from your RCN3 and set your EV to minus 0.3 or minus 0.7. This will help keep the highlights looking better while retaining some dynamic information from the shadows.

Tip 5: Be Careful with Return to Home Altitude

Since the Neo does not have any obstacle avoidance, be careful when you fly this drone. Change your return-to-home altitude depending on where you fly. For example, if you’re flying in a forest, set your return-to-home altitude to 10m to avoid hitting trees. If you’re flying over trees or obstacles, set it to about 50m. This will help keep the drone safe and avoid crashes.

Hopefully, these tips will help you get the most out of your DJI Neo. Enjoy your flying!
