DJI FPV Drone also confirmed in FCC Filings
After first seeing the DJI FPV Goggles V2 and the DJI FPV Remote Controller 2 show up in FCC filings earlier today, we were wondering when the DJI FPV Drone would show up. Well, we didn’t have to wait very long as that just happened a few minutes ago.
DJI FPV Drone also confirmed in FCC Filings
Just now the DJI FPV Drone was confirmed in publicly available FCC filings. Unlike the other two filings from earlier today, the DJI FPV Drone FCC Filing provides very little information. However, one thing stands out and that is the date of the FCC Confidential Authorization of 2020-09-25, meaning that this filing has been in the works for some time already! Hat tip to Mr. D. for spotting this first.
We also find the label for the DJI FPV Drone as well as the location of the label inside the battery compartment in these FCC filings. The label shows the model name FD1W4K as well as the battery information of 22.2V, 2000mAh, and 44.4Wh. For comparison, the DJI Mavic 2 Pro battery is rated at 15.4V, 3850mAH, and 59.29Wh.
We know that the FCC has recently changed their rules around when information needs to be made public, allowing companies to only have the filings be released much closer to the actual launch date of a new product.
For the filing FCC ID SS3-FD1W4K2006, which is the DJI FPV Drone, DJI has asked for short-term confidentiality to apply with a release date of 06/06/21. Does this tell us anything as to when we may expect this new DJI drone? Well not really, unfortunately. Over the last four years, I have seen FCC filing become public and still have to wait for many weeks before a new product came to market. More recently, however, we have seen the DJI product launches happen much sooner after an FCC filing appeared.
Some people have suggested that DJI will not launch the DJI FPV Drone until early 2021. I am however in the other camp that believes that there is a very good chance that DJI will release the new drone much sooner and in time for the Holiday Shopping Season. The FCC filings, the DJI teaser video, and the number of leaked photos seem to indicate that a launch is imminent.
When do you think that the new DJI FPV Drone will be released? Let us know in the comments below.
