New photo leaked of DJI’s upcoming FPV drone

Another new photo of DJI’s upcoming FPV drone has been leaked. This gives a little more information about the product. The most remarkable detail: it seems that the drone has sensors for obstacle detection. That is what you call unique for a racing drone. Also visible is the mechanism with which the angle of the FPV camera can be controlled.

Clear shot

The photo was posted by Chinese twitterer OsitalV, a notorious source of rumors and unofficial photos of upcoming DJI products. “Clear shot!” He adds, and that’s right: it is the most detailed and sharp photo of the to date.

An interesting fact is that the drone appears to be equipped with the same sensors as we know from the Mavic 2. It could be the sensors for obstacle detection. That would be unique for a racing drone. In certain flight modes, the drone may be able to lend the pilot a helping hand by preventing one from flying into something. No doubt that seasoned FPV pilots are horrified by the thought alone, but it makes learning to fly FPV a lot more accessible.

Sensors for obstacle avoidance?

Another detail concerns the camera module. It appears to be mounted on a module that can be turned up and down remotely. This is important as soon as you start flying a little faster: the drone will then hang at a slant, and therefore the FPV camera must be placed at a somewhat greater angle if you want to have a good view of the horizon.

Launch date not yet known

It is not yet known when DJI will announce the new FPV drone. For a moment, it was rumored that December 15 would be the launch date, but that rumor was quickly debunked. We are now aiming for the launch date of early January.
