High School Drone Program Gets $5K Boost for Pre-Construction Aerial Documentation
Batesville High School Charter’s drone and aviation program just got a major upgrade thanks to a $5,000 donation that’ll help students capture aerial imagery for a local construction project, according to a report from White River Now.
Students Take Flight with Real-World Drone Experience
The program’s putting students in the pilot’s seat, literally. They’re getting hands-on experience with Drone Technology while providing valuable pre-construction aerial documentation for a major community project. It’s not just classroom theory – these kids are flying real missions with real impact.
“The high-quality work that these students have delivered is essential to ensuring the project’s success,” Robert Thacker, General Superintendent reportedly said. “Their attention to detail and technical skill in aerial photography has impressed our entire team and will play a vital role in accurately restoring impacted areas.”
Community Investment in Drone Education
The TOLM Group, which is running a three-year project in Batesville, Arkansas, partnered with the city to make this happen. They’re not just throwing money at the program – they’re creating actual work opportunities for these student drone pilots.
“At TOLM, our mission is to foster strong community ties, and this partnership with Batesville High School Charter is a perfect reflection of that commitment,” explains TOLM President Brian Rohlmon.
Real Skills, Real Impact
Under the guidance of Clint Howard, the Drone and Aviation Program’s director, students like Josiah Vaughn and London Mayes are getting practical experience with drone operations. They’re learning everything from basic flight controls to professional aerial photography techniques.
DroneXL’s Take
This kind of educational drone program is exactly what the industry needs. We’re seeing more schools integrate drone technology into their curriculum, and for good reason. These students aren’t just learning to fly – they’re getting real-world experience in commercial drone applications, from surveying to documentation. It’s preparing them for careers in an industry that’s only going to grow.
