DJI Mavic 4 on the Horizon? FCC Registration Hints at Imminent Release

Drone enthusiasts, get ready for some exciting news. It seems the might be just around the corner, according to recent FCC registration details spotted by industry insider Jasper Ellens.

In a tweet, Ellens shared compelling evidence suggesting the imminent arrival of DJI’s next flagship consumer drone. Let’s dive into what we know so far.

Bigger Battery, Better Performance

The FCC registration reveals a battery spec of 14.76V and 6471mAh, totaling 99.5Wh. This is a significant upgrade from the Mavic 3’s 77Wh battery, potentially indicating longer flight times and improved overall performance.

Dual Registration: A Pro Feature?

Ellens points out a “double registration” for models JV31 and JV32. This dual model approach is reminiscent of previous Cine and Pro versions, hinting at multiple variants for the Mavic 4.

Sneaky DJI Tactics

“DJI is trying to hide the FCC names but it doesn’t matter,” Ellens notes. This attempt at secrecy only fuels speculation about the drone’s impending release.

New Components

The FCC registration also lists several new components:

  • DJI Avinox Wireless Switch (DJI E-bike drivetrain)
  • JV31.JV32 (likely the DJI Mavic 4 drone models)
  • DJI Power Dongle
  • DJI Air 3S

Redesigned Internals

An image of the drone’s internals shows some interesting changes. Ellens highlights “the absence of sensors on the front and the camera being a perfect sphere making it possible to even photograph straight up.”

Release Timeline

While no official release date has been announced, the FCC registration dates (ranging from September 16 to 27, 2024) suggest we might see the DJI Mavic 4 hit the market before the end of the year.

DroneXL’s Take

The potential release of the DJI Mavic 4 is big news for the drone industry. It’s worth noting that refresh cycles for higher-end drones like the Mavic series tend to be slower than for consumer models like the DJI Mini. This is partly due to the extensive ecosystems built around commercial drone use, including training programs, investments in spare parts, and battery stockpiles.

The Mavic 4’s arrival could shake up the market, potentially offering features that blur the line between consumer and professional-grade drones. As we’ve seen with previous Mavic models, these drones often become the go-to choice for many commercial applications due to their balance of portability and performance.
