Drone video meets painting in ‘TUSCANY through ART’
The winners of the SkyPixel 2021 Creative Video Contest were recently announced. The top prize was won by Italian filmmaker Sergio Mota. With his entry TUSCANY through ART, he single-handedly introduces a whole new genre of Drone Video, namely an ode to classical painting. The result is a flashy journey through a colorful fantasy world.

Mota’s video is first and foremost an aesthetically stunning visual adventure set in Italy. As a viewer, you will be taken on a journey past the masterpieces of Friedrich, Dalí and Van Gogh, catch a glimpse of European art history and experience the most beautiful of what mankind has produced.
“The whole video is based on three pillars: art, color and the artists,” said Sergio. “I want to show how different artists create a fantasy world full of color through the iconic landscapes of Tuscany.”
Sergio used a DJI Mavic 2 Pro to make the drone shots. He shot the ground images with a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema 4K camera, in combination with a Ronin S. The 3D models that appear in the video were obtained by Sergio from Sketchfab.
‘Clear winner’
Judge Mike Bishop – a drone video maker himself – raved about the entry. “I consider this drone video to be one of the most unique and creative short films I’ve ever seen. It’s a clear winner, in my opinion.”
