DJI Mini 3 Pro drone officially launches today

Today, DJI officially launched the DJI Mini 3 Pro drone. Is there anything we haven’t seen or heard about this very capable sub-250-gram mini drone? Let’s find out!

As usual, DJI has done a great job of leaking photos and information in the weeks leading up to the official launch of the DJI Mini 3 Pro today. We have seen product photos, and even video reviews ahead of the introduction of this latest DJI drone.

Here’s all the official information from the world’s largest drone maker, DJI.

“DJI Mini 3 Pro Redefines What a Sub-249g Camera Drone Can Do,” DJI says. “Lightweight, portable and powerful, DJI Mini 3 Pro is embedded with a full range of features as the first high-end product of the DJI Mini series”

O DJI Mini 3 Pro is what DJI calls a “policy-friendly drone” because, in many Countries, drones that weigh less than 250 grams face easier drone regulations or, in some cases, barely any restrictions at all.

O DJI Mini 3 Pro is the latest in a series of mini drones that have been released by DJI over the last few years. It started with the DJI Mavic Mini, the Mini SE, the Mini 2, and now the Mini 3 Pro.

“When we launched the Mini drone series in 2019, our goal was to give everyone the easiest way to see the world from above for the first time,” said Ferdinand Wolf, Creative Director at DJI. “Through their images and stories, we discovered how capable a small aerial camera could be. Today, we share the integration of excellent flight capability, intelligence, and imaging versatility into our ultra-lightweight aerial camera. DJI Mini 3 Pro raises the bar on what a portable, powerful camera drone can achieve.”

O Mini 3 Pro is easily the most capable mini drone DJI has ever launched. It features tri-directional obstacle avoidance consisting of forward, backward, and downward visual sensors, weighs less than 249 grams, it shoots up to 4K60fps video footage, has a gimbal that rotates 90 degrees for vertical video and photos, and flies for more than 30 minutes.

O DJI Mini 3 Pro also boasts a greatly enhanced imaging system. The mini drone features a 1/1.3-inch CMOS camera sensor with dual native ISO. It also has a f/1.7 aperture and shoots 48MP photos as well as 4K/60fps videos.

The vertical shooting mode enables you to take photos or videos in portrait orientation without quality-cutting image zooming and cropping, thanks to the camera’s 90-degree rotation for True Vertical Shooting.

At frame rates up to 30fps, HDR video recording offers the most vivid detail. The DJI Mini 3 Pro has both a Normal color profile, which is intended for quick in-app editing and a D-Cinelike profile for greater post-editing possibilities. Digital video zoom at up to 2x is available in 4K, 3x in 2.7K, and 4x in Full HD.

O DJI Mini 3 Pro has improved image quality, especially in low light and at night. It uses 2.4μm pixels that capture more picture information, which is particularly advantageous in dim conditions and at night.

O DJI Mini 3 Pro has a longer flight time than its predecessors, despite weighing just 249 grams. The DJI mini drone can stay airborne for up to 34 minutes or as long as 47 minutes when using the extended flight batteries, in which case the weight of the drone surpasses 249 grams. O3 is the name of the DJI Mini 3 Pro’s transmission mechanism, which allows for a sharp 1080p live video feed from up to more than 7 miles away.

DJI Mini 3 Pro obstacle avoidance

The obstacle-avoidance sensors also enable Advanced Pilot Assistance Systems (APAS) 4.0, which automatically detects and exploits a safer path around obstacles during flight.

In addition, these sensors allow the entire FocusTrack suite to operate. Users may pick a subject for the drone to keep inside the frame while flying and automatically design a safe flight path.

DJI Mini 3 Pro is the first of the DJI Mini range to include APAS and FocusTrack, due to its improved sensing technology.

DJI Mini 3 Pro comes with an impressive list of upgrades, but that isn’t all it has to offer. DJI’s Air and Mavic series of intelligent capturing modes is now accessible on the Mini 3 Pro, allowing you to do things you never imagined. You may accomplish the following tasks with a single touch:

• FocusTrack Suite
  • Spotlight 2.0 keeps the subject in frame while you fly manually.
  • Point of Interest 3.0 circles the subject in a set flight radius and speed.
  • ActiveTrack 4.0 follows the subject in two selectable ways:
    • Trace: The aircraft tracks the subject at a constant distance
    • Parallel: The aircraft tracks the subject while flying beside it at a constant angle and distance

• QuickShots
  • Dronie: Aircraft flies back and up with the camera locked on the subject.
  • Helix: Aircraft flies up and spirals around the subject.
  • Rocket: Aircraft flies up with the camera facing down.
  • Circle: Aircraft circles around the subject.
  • Boomerang: Aircraft flies around the subject in an oval path, ascending as it flies away and descending as it returns.
  • Asteroid: Aircraft creates a shot that begins as a sphere panorama high above the subject and ends with a normal shot hovering near the subject.

• MasterShots: Keeps the subject in the center of the frame while executing different maneuvers in sequence to generate a short cinematic video.

• Hyperlapse: Creates a dynamic timelapse where the aircraft flies on set paths during capture.

DJI RC for the DJI Mini 3 Pro

O DJI Mini 3 Pro can be bought with the new DJI RC with a very bright, built-in 5.5″ touchscreen. Yes, you pay extra for this but in my experience, it is very much worth it. Not having to deal with your smartphone to fly a drone is such an improved flying experience. I highly recommend getting this if you’re planning on buying the DJI Mini Pro.
