DJI Mavic 3 Series HUGE Firmware Update – Vision Assist and New AR Features
Good day, folks. Shawn here from Air Photography. DJI has launched a brand-new Firmware Update for the DJI Mavic 3 Series. This is a substantial update with some incredible new features. This firmware update applies to the entire Mavic 3 lineup, including the original Mavic 3, Mavic 3 Classic, and the Mavic 3 Pro, which I will be demonstrating today. While some features are specifically for the Mavic 3 Pro and its 3x camera, the truly impressive features apply to all three drones. We’ll now get the drone up in the air, and as mentioned, I’ll be demonstrating with the Mavic 3 Pro in front of me.
Let’s first delve into some of the features specific to particular models. First, with the seven-times camera, when we switch over to our camera settings, we now have the option to film in D-Log M and HLG in 10-bit color. The next update is exclusive to the Mavic 3 Pro concerning its 3x camera. Now, we’re capable of filming night shots, master shots, quick shots, and spherical panoramas. We’ll examine these closely at the end of the video.
Now, onto some of the more captivating updates, which are universal across the DJI Mavic 3, Mavic 3 Classicve Mavic 3 Pro. Let’s gain some altitude and switch back to the 1x camera. The first feature is called Vision Assist. This is truly incredible. We can access Vision Assist by launching our maps. With a swipe, we now see a black-and-white image, which can be expanded to full screen. It utilizes the obstacle avoidance cameras to give us a view in four directions. For instance, you can see a motor. This can be extremely beneficial when flying backward and needing to see what’s behind. Though the image is in black-and-white, it’s sufficient to ensure there are no obstructions, like trees, in your path.
The next feature is also fascinating. DJI has incorporated augmented reality (AR) features. Notably, a virtual home point has been added at the screen’s bottom, reminiscent of what was done with the DJI FPV ve DJI Avata. As we move away from the home point, it shifts based on the drone’s position. This virtual point allows users to quickly identify the home location without resorting to maps or compasses.
Another AR addition is the return-to-home route. When activated, a green line appears on the screen, showing the drone’s path back home. This feature aids in ensuring there are no obstacles in the way during the return. Another AR enhancement is a “drone shadow” during landing. As I bring the drone down and tilt the camera, a drone shadow appears, indicating the precise landing spot. This is particularly helpful for determining where the drone will land on uneven terrain.
But that’s not all. There’s a new feature called “frame guides”. Accessible from the camera settings, users can choose the desired aspect ratio. For instance, selecting a 9:16 vertical video will show blacked-out areas on the sides. The actual video recorded will still be in a 9:16 aspect ratio; this is merely a visual guide for platforms like TikTok, Instagram Reels, or YouTube shorts.
Lastly, in the settings, under the safety tab, there’s now an option to disable the downward vision positioning. This is especially useful in foggy conditions or when landing amidst obstacles. However, note that disabling this might affect the drone’s stability, as the vision sensors help stabilize it.
Regarding the AR settings demonstrated, they can be adjusted. Under the safety tab, there’s a new section called “AR settings” where users can enable or disable the AR home point, AR return to home route, and the aircraft shadow.
In conclusion, those are the new firmware updates for the DJI Mavic 3 Series. This was a brief overview of the new features. I plan to make more detailed videos delving into each feature. For example, I’ll provide a full demonstration of master shots using the 3x camera, explore the night mode for the 3x camera, and Review the new AR features.
I hope you found this video valuable. If you did, please give it a thumbs up. It’s always greatly appreciated. See you in the next one.
