How To Download Offline Maps to DJI RC and DJI RC Pro

Good day, folks! This is Shawn from Air Photography, and today I have a quick tutorial for you on how to download offline maps to either your RC Pro or the DJI RC. I covered this topic briefly in a firmware video about a month ago when this feature was released, but I thought it would be helpful to create a dedicated відео for people who are searching for this information.
In the past, this was not an issue because most people flew with a smartphone and this style of controller (the DJI RC-N1). This meant that maps were downloaded automatically in real-time as needed because smartphones have internet connections.

However, with the DJI RC Pro and the DJI RC, there is no active internet connection unless you tether them to your phone. If you need to pull up maps, they won’t display. Tethering to your phone using the hotspot feature is one option, but it’s not really convenient. In the case of the DJI RC, DJI actually disables the Wi-Fi as soon as you launch your drone because it can interfere with signal transmission.
Demontstartion of how to download offline maps to DJI RC Pro
The process I’m going to demonstrate works the same on both controllers, but I will show you how to do it on the DJI RC Pro. Right now, I am disconnected from Wi-Fi, and I want to show you the difference. Let’s go into our camera view and bring up our maps. I already have this area downloaded as a cached map, so it’s displaying everything. However, if I go to a different city where I haven’t downloaded the maps, let’s say Sarnia, you can see that as we zoom in, it’s not displaying any information.
To download offline maps, we need to go back to the main page of the DJI Fly App. Click on profile, and you will see the option “Offline Maps,” which was added with the latest Firmware Update about a month ago for the DJI RC and the RC Pro. If you click on it, you will have the option to start downloading maps for different areas, so you can zoom in and out and find the area for which you want to download a map.

Let’s download that area. At the bottom, you will see the size of the map you will download, and it will show how much available space there is on your device.

Before you download the maps, ensure that you are connected to Wi-Fi. You should do this at home before you head out. Click the download button, and it will ask you if you want to give that region a specific name. It is probably a good idea to do this because we can go in and manage what we have downloaded later, and it makes it easier to identify which area is which.
For now, I will leave it as Region 2 and click Yes. You can see the progress percentage showing how much longer it will take to download. And there you go! That area has been downloaded, so you can go ahead and download a few more areas if you know you will be heading out to a location with poor coverage.

To manage and delete the downloads, click the downloads button at the top, and you will see all the different areas that we’ve downloaded. It’s a good idea to name them because it makes it easier to identify them. You can see I have one called London and one called Region 2. You can go in and delete or rename them by clicking those three dots.

Now, I’m going to exit and disconnect from Wi-Fi. We will go back into our camera view and bring up our maps. As you can see, I don’t have an internet connection, but I do have the maps that I downloaded previously. At this point, we can even switch over to satellite view.

To summarize, this was a quick tutorial on how to download offline maps for the DJI RC Pro and the DJI RC. These controllers do not have an active internet connection unless tethered to a phone, so downloading maps is necessary if you plan to use them without an internet connection.
The tutorial demonstrated how to download maps using the DJI Fly app and manage the downloads later.
Offline maps may not be necessary for everyone, but they do come in handy in some scenarios, and it’s up to the user whether they find them beneficial. If you found this tutorial helpful, please give it a thumbs up and subscribe to the channel for more upcoming videos.
Thank you for watching!
