US Sanctions Target Iran’s Drone Program Supporting Russia

Iran has supplied thousands of Shahed kamikaze drones to Russia, which have been used to deplete Ukrainian air defenses and target infrastructure far from the front lines. These drones have been a significant component of Russia’s strategy since its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

The Treasury’s sanctions focus on four entities that procure critical parts for Iran’s drone program, as well as Afshin Khajeh Fard, the chief of Iran Aviation Industries Organization (IAIO).
