DJI Fly app doesn’t work with Google Pixel 6 phones drone pilots complain
The DJI Fly app is incompatible with the Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro smartphones. Drone pilots of the Mavic Mini, Mavic Air 2, Mini 2, DJI FPV, Air 2S, and DJI Mavic 3 have experienced this. Instead of the camera picture, the app displays a blank screen on the smartphone. The issue is if DJI will find a solution quickly. The problems are also present in DJI’s other Android applications, including GO 4 and Mimo.
DJI Fly app doesn’t work with Google Pixel 6 phones drone pilots complain
Complaints may be found in a variety of places, including the DJI user forum.
“DJI Fly is the only app I use that had problems with Android 12 and now specifically with the Pixel 6. Ridiculous for a company that claims to have an ‘unmatched commitment to R&D and a culture of constant innovation’.”
Another user commented:
“Isn’t it crazy that DJI doesn’t support Google’s new flagship with the latest operating system? That seems strange to me! Consider what would happen if they didn’t support the iPhone 13… That would result in a mutiny!”
DJI’s response
In response to many concerns on the forum, a DJI support agent writes:
“I regret to inform you that the said mobile device is not recommended for the particular DJI application. We recommend using a recommended mobile device for the DJI Fly application to avoid compatibility and reliability issues.”
According to the moderator’s update, it is uncertain if DJI will come up with a solution:
“The DJI Fly application may work on the Google Pixel 6 Pro at some point. However, since it has not yet been optimized with the said DJI application, we cannot guarantee whether it will always work or whether all functions of the DJI Fly application can be used.”
However, according to the following statement from the impacted customer, the support professional receives little understanding with this response:
“What kind of response is ‘use another phone? Unlike some others, I only have one phone and I can’t just buy another one, it’s too expensive for me. I really hope you take this seriously and come up with a solution!”
Google’s Pixel 6 is the company’s most recent flagship smartphone. Tensor, a Google-designed CPU, powers the phone. It would outperform Qualcomm’s most powerful smartphone chips. Their issues with the DJI Fly App may be related to Google’s decision to use its own CPU, while users of other brands/models of Android devices, notably the Samsung Galaxy S21, have also experienced issues.
DJI Fly is the replacement for DJI GO 4. It’s a stripped-down software designed for the entry-level Mavic Mini, Mavic Air 2, and Mini 2. DJI Fly is also used by the DJI FPV, Air 2S, and the new DJI Mavic 3.
