DJI Neo Drone: Voice Control Feature Demonstration
DJI has recently released the new Neo drone, and one of its most interesting features is the ability to use voice control. This feature wasn’t available during my full Review as I was using beta software at the time. Now that the DJI Neo is publicly available, this feature has been added via a Firmware Update.
Let’s do a quick demonstration of how it works.
Interface Overview
I’ll display a screen capture of the fly app on the side of the screen so you can see what I’m doing. In the interface, there’s a speech bubble icon on the right-hand side. Clicking on it brings up a bubble at the bottom where it listens for commands. Above this, there are some adjustable settings and a list of available commands.
Voice Command Settings
Let’s take a look at the settings:
- Voice Wake-up: Enable this to activate voice commands by saying “Hey Fly.”
- Available Commands:
- Recording commands
- Following commands (e.g., closer, higher, farther, lower)
- Safety commands (land, break, stop)
Demonstration
Voice Wake-up
I’ll enable the Voice Wake-up feature to show you how it works. Now, instead of hitting the button to turn on voice control, I can simply say, “Hey Fly.” You can see the prompt appears immediately, indicating it’s listening.
Dronie Command
Let’s try a simple command:
“Dronie drone two one”
The drone launches and performs a dronie maneuver. When it’s done, it returns to me, and I can land it by extending my hand.
Follow Command
Now, let’s try another command:
“Follow three two one”
This works extremely well. I didn’t have to use any buttons or keys; I just spoke the command. Now I can move around, and the drone will follow me.
Additional Commands
I can give more specific instructions:
- “Closer” – The drone moves closer to me
- “Farther” – The drone moves away
- “Lower” – The drone lowers its altitude
- “Higher” – The drone increases its altitude
- “Land” – The drone initiates landing
Practical Applications
This feature can be particularly useful when combined with tracking. For example, if you have your phone mounted on a bike and you’re tracking yourself, you can easily use voice commands to adjust the drone’s position or height. In emergencies, you can quickly tell the drone to break or stop.
Conclusion
This was a quick demonstration of the voice command features of the DJI Neo drone. It’s an impressive little drone with interesting capabilities. If you’re interested in this drone, stay tuned for more content in the coming weeks and months. I’ll be covering tips, tutorials, demonstrations, and follow-up reviews after extended use.
Thanks for watching, and we’ll see you in the next one!
