DJI Matrice 300 (or M300) and Mavic 3 update

Here’s a quick update on the 大疆创新 Matrice 300 (or M300) and the Mavic 3. The M300 is obviously the successor to the DJI Matrice 200/210 drone and aimed at the commercial or enterprise drone market. This unmanned aircraft was originally planned to be launched earlier this year, but there have been some roadblocks along the way, not the least of which has been the Coronavirus. So, the question is, where do we stand with the Matrice 300 and when can we expect this drone to hit the U.S. market? Let’s look at the latest information, we have been able to collect
When will we see the Matrice 300?
The last time I wrote about the DJI Matrice 300, I had mentioned that the spreading coronavirus had prevented US-based DJI employees from traveling to 中国 to undergo training on this new commercial drone. The virus in China was spreading quickly at that time and many areas were on lockdown. Instead, China-based DJI employees were supposed to come to the U.S. to train DJI people over here. This was back in early March.
Around the same time, we also learned that DJI had already submitted the paperwork to the FCC for the obligatory filing with a 60-day secrecy-cycle request.
The latest information, that we received today from a very reliable source, is that the Matrice 300 was going through final software testing, but since the software programmers are in China the coronavirus has delayed this process. We have been informed that “some significant bugs [were] discovered and [that] it was pushed back a couple [of] months.”
DJI is now targeting a release date for the DJI Matrice 300 in June with merely an online announcement. No special launch event is scheduled for the drone because of the coronavirus.
Enough about the Matrice. What about the Mavic 3?
Some of you are probably thinking, well so what, the M300 is not my kind of drone anyway. It is too big. Too expensive. Too complicated. Tell me about the 大疆创新 Mavic 3. When is that drone coming out?
Well, we’re trying to find out what the deal is with DJI and the launch of the Mavic 3. We have heard that the M3 was not even on the agenda any more for 2020, but recently we have received information that there still is a chance for a launch this summer. Around July.
Apparently, DJI is working on improving the drone’s ability to track subjects as well as its obstacle avoidance capabilities. Our source told us that both features of the Mavic 3 are “being completely re-designed to be more competitive with Autel Evo 2 offering.”
We are working hard to dig up more information on the 大疆创新 Mavic 3. We know that this is the drone that most people are most interested in (including me) and any new information that we find will be shared here on DroneXL.
Have a great weekend and stay healthy!
