Poland Strengthens Air Capabilities with Advanced MQ-9B Sky Guardian Acquisition Deal

The Polish Armed Forces are set to significantly enhance their unmanned aerial capabilities through a newly signed $310 million contract for MQ-9B Sky Guardian drones, marking a crucial step in establishing the country’s dedicated Drone Force military component. Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz announced the agreement on December 12, building upon 波兰‘s existing experience with leased MQ-9A Reaper systems, reports Defense News.

The acquisition represents a substantial upgrade from Poland’s current MQ-9A Reaper fleet, which was secured through a $70.6 million lease agreement with General Atomics in October 2022. The MQ-9B Sky Guardian brings significant technological advantages over its predecessor, featuring an impressive 79-foot wingspan that exceeds previous models.
