Police Drone Training Leads to Arrest of Wanted Woman in Ohio Woods

A routine thermal flight training exercise with a drone led to the unexpected discovery and arrest of a wanted woman in Bowling Green, , according to the Sentinel Tribune.

Thermal Drone Training Reveals Hidden Campsite

During a training session on Tuesday, a Bowling Green Police Division officer operating a drone equipped with thermal imaging technology spotted an unusual heat signature – a tent hidden in the Black Swamp Preserve behind South Main Street. The occupant was identified as 27-year-old Leeann Cox, who had recently been evicted from her residence.

Drones Aid in Nighttime Arrest Operation

When officers learned of Cox’s outstanding felony warrant, they returned around 2:14 a.m. Wednesday to execute an arrest. The police deployed multiple drones for aerial reconnaissance before approaching the site. Using the aerial advantage provided by the drones, officers were able to safely coordinate their approach and give commands to the tent’s occupants.

Successful Arrest and Resolution

The drone-assisted operation led to Cox’s peaceful arrest on a felony warrant for failure to appear on theft charges. A male companion found in the tent was briefly detained and given 24 hours to leave the park.
