DJI Flip Drone Appears Imminent, But Where Does It Fit in DJI’s Lineup?
Recent evidence suggests DJI is preparing to launch a new drone called the “DJI Flip,” though industry experts are puzzled about its market positioning within DJI’s increasingly crowded product lineup.
Multiple sources on social media, including drone expert Jasper Ellens, have been discussing the potential release and its implications.

A Crowded Product Range
The timing of this apparent new addition raises questions, given DJI’s already comprehensive consumer drone portfolio:
- DJI Mini 4 Pro
- DJI Mini 3
- DJI Mini 4K
- DJI Neo (recently launched)
“At this point I don’t even understand DJI anymore,” notes Ellens. “The DJI FLIP looks like a Frankensteined Mini 2, purely designed to be a 30 minute flight 4K micro drone that may or may not flip or fold in two like the Hover AIR.”
Not Your Typical FPV Drone
Initial speculation about the Flip being a lightweight FPV drone appears unfounded.
“The Flip was spotted with a normal controller. So I don’t expect FPV compatibility on this one…” Ellens reported, suggesting this drone may target a different market segment than DJI’s existing FPV offerings.
Technical Specifications
The documented specifications reveal a few key details:
- Battery: 7.16V/3110 mAh (22.3 Wh)
- Ducted propeller design
Market Questions Remain
The introduction of the DJI Flip raises several critical questions:
- How will it differentiate from the Mini series?
- What unique features justify another consumer drone?
- Who is the target audience?
- What price point will it occupy?
DroneXL’s Take
The apparent addition of the DJI Flip to the company’s lineup suggests an evolving strategy in the consumer drone market. While DJI has historically maintained clear distinctions between product lines, this new model might indicate a shift toward more specialized use cases. The ducted design could appeal to both newcomers prioritizing safety and professionals requiring reliable indoor performance, potentially bridging the gap between inspection capabilities and consumer accessibility.

On an unrelated note while I wait for a Mavic 4 Pro which I expect to start seeing “leaks” after Black Friday, is it an incentive to get a water bottle as incentive to buy a Mavic 3 Pro?
