DJI Enhances Flip and Air 3S Capabilities with Latest Firmware Updates

DJI has rolled out significant firmware updates for two of its consumer drones – the beginner-friendly and the photography-focused Air 3S. The updates introduce new features for the Flip while addressing stability improvements for both aircraft.

DJI Flip Gets Major Feature Expansion

The latest (v01.00.1100) for the sub-249g DJI Flip builds upon a substantial feature release earlier this month. The most notable addition is the introduction of voice control functionality, allowing pilots to operate their drones through voice commands using the “Hey Fly!” activation phrase.

The update also brings support for DirectionTrack and advanced recording capabilities to the compact drone. Users can now record audio directly through their mobile devices or compatible Bluetooth accessories, with DJI’s software automatically filtering out motor and propeller noise for cleaner recordings.

Cinematographers will appreciate the addition of 4K/100fps slow-motion recording, enabling smooth slow-motion footage at the highest resolution the Flip’s 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor can deliver. This 48MP sensor continues to support standard 4K/60fps HDR video capture for regular filming.

DJI has also streamlined the user experience with the new “Fold Arm to Power Off” feature. This quality-of-life improvement automatically shuts down the aircraft when its arms are folded, simplifying post-flight procedures. Furthermore, DJI addressed some “known issues” with the drone.

Air 3S Update Focuses on Stability

The , introduced in late 2024, receives a more focused update (v01.00.0800) targeting system stability and performance optimization. The dual-camera system, featuring a 1-inch CMOS main camera paired with a 70mm medium telephoto lens, maintains its impressive 14-stop dynamic range across both sensors.

Update Availability

Both firmware updates are available through the for iOS and Android platforms. Users should ensure they have the latest version of DJI Fly (v1.16.0 or later) installed to access all new features, particularly for the Flip’s voice control functionality.

DJI recommends users verify their camera settings after completing the update process, as these may reset to default values during installation. In case of update failures, users should restart all components – aircraft, remote controller, and the DJI Fly app – before attempting the update again.
