DJI Mavic 3s rumored for a possible Fall release

In the category ; we have been told that a DJI Mavic 3s is in the works for a possible Fall release.

Now, I get it. There’s a very good reason for DJI to come out with a successor so quickly.

The has been plagued by missing features since it was released in the Fall of 2021.

Drone maker DJI has been playing catch up with firmware updates to make the drone live up to the promises made at the time of the launch.

One of the biggest gripes among both professional and hobbyist drone pilots has been the incredibly long time it takes for the DJI Mavic 3 to establish satellite connections.

So, presumably, the yet-to-be-released DJI Mavic 3s is going to fix all the problems.

DJI Mavic 3s (Satellite)

DJI Mavic 3s… S stands for satellite… Makes sense, doesn’t it?

No, all kidding aside. DJI is rumored to be working on a new version of the DJI Mavic 3.

It would be called the DJI Mavic 3s and it would offer a number of improvements.

  • The sensor for the telephoto camera would increase to 1 inch.
  • The main camera would remain unchanged.
  • The battery capacity would be increased by roughly 15% for a longer flight time.
  • The release of the DJI Mavic 3s might be as soon as this Fall or Q1 2023.
  • The DJI Mavic 3s might come in different color options

Now, please keep in mind that these are very early rumors and thus are likely to change. We first wrote about the DJI Mavic 3s in December of last year.

Fyi – the DJI Mavic 3 has a 1/2-inch CMOS sensor for its secondary camera with the telephoto lens.

As far as the satellite problem of the current DJI Mavic 3, well it seems that the latest firmware update has not resolved the issue for all pilots. Initial user feedback is mixed, to say the least. More about this in a later post though.

In the meantime, what do you think of a new DJI Mavic 3s arriving on the market? Something to look forward to? Is it too soon and should DJI focus on cleaning up all the issues with the DJI Mavic 3 first before launching yet another drone?

Or do you think it makes sense? The DJI Air 2 and Air 2s were launched very close after each other. The same goes for the DJI Mavic Mini and the . They were about one year apart.

  1. Some of the information here just don’t add up. It is extremely unlikely DJI could release an updated version of Mavic 3, with increased sensor size, and increased battery life at the same time. You can’t go beyond the law of the physics.

    • They can increase battery output, use more efficient electronics with less current draw, use lighter materials for the body, etc.

  2. I’d be upset if they released a newer version so early after spending the amount of money I did for the mavic 3. They need to fix the issues first

    • ill take an updated drone any day. m3 is a test build. not received well. i have mine for sale now in anticipation of the m3 s.

      • I don’t mind drones being updated but for such an expensive drone already being talked about being upgraded, it’s just not right especially how long we waited from the m2pro

  3. they should drop a separate zoom model, 4/3 model, and just update the dual a little. in camera quality terms i can see at least one of them having that mechanical shutter. maybe not the zoom or dual. but the 4/3 version should. the biggest letdown on this drone is its still a rolling shutter. go look at djis listing for p4prov2.0 it describes the difference in detail.

i don’t think this will happen. but the camera modules locking in like a battery, that would be nice. dji could let nikon or some company possibly build a camera, they could switch easy. when you think of it, they could easily make it snap in like a battery. m4 i guess. or maybe never who knows.

  4. It would be extremely ridiculous. Drones cannot be like phones that are released every year with minimal specs updates. DJI needs to work on updated versions that bring substantial improvement, not just some improvement. Also, if the problems can be solved with software updates, the better.

  5. While improved telephoto camera would be welcome I have lots of trouble in seeing how they could cram 1″ sensor telephoto camera and bigger capacity battery into 900 gram limit.
Single 1″ sensor zoom lens camera would sound more believable.

And while Mavic Pro Platinum came about year after original that was only minor improvement.
Making clear update this soon would make buyers of expensive product feel cheated.

  6. I dont want a better camera or flight time. I’d like to see features that justify the price like..

    – Professional controller with (minimum) same controls as Mavic 2. I used the rear buttons all the time and I want the telemetry screen back.

    – New GPS to fix the problems correctly. The vehicle GPS chip sucks.

    – Waypoints that work. Ideally more like the Skydio 3D space with keyframing.

    – More onboard memory (not just the cine version)
