Highschool team Altitude Angels wins third place in drone competition
Brockton High School's drone team, the “Altitude Angels,” secured third place in the New England Aerospace Robotics Competition held at St. Anselm, New Hampshire, this past Saturday.
In addition to the team's commendable finish, Jamya Evans, Lizberte Celestin, and Maura Barrada, three of its members, were acknowledged for their exceptional leadership during the event.
The team members recently shared their experiences with WBZ, discussing their commitment to breaking stereotypes.
“It feels like I have a chip on my shoulder. I have people to represent and have people to show out for,” expressed 12th grader Aris Cardoso, according to CBS News.
The Altitude Angels stand out as one of the few drone teams led by young women of color.
Eleventh grader Amieiya Cudjoe commented on this aspect, saying, “It feels really empowering because seeing people like me with the same color and being female show that I can really go out there and do anything.”
