Good day folks. Shawn here from Air Photography. The DJI Osmo 360 has received several significant updates over the past week for both the camera firmware and the DJI Mimo app. I wanted to make a quick video about these updates for those who are on the fence about purchasing the camera—those who are monitoring it to see what kind of updates and new features are added before they invest.

Firmware Updates for the DJI Omso 360

Let’s take a look at the firmware update we recently received. Depending on where you are in the world, the firmware rollout was staggered. Some of you received it last week, while others may have only gotten it yesterday.

One of the biggest new features is the addition of a new twist-to-shoot option, which we’ll examine in a moment. We do need to enable this feature in the settings. DJI has also enhanced the 360-degree video quality when filming in 8K, improved color reproduction and detail in D-Log mode, and fixed some minor bugs.

DJI Mimo App Updates

Looking at the DJI Mimo app, there have actually been two updates over the past week or so. One of the main additions is distortion correction functionality. This was a significant concern when the camera first launched, as many people felt it had more distortion than the Insta360 X5 in certain scenarios. Now, just like the Insta360 X5, we can enable distortion correction directly on the video.

The app updates also include changes for color grading, watermark options, and modifications to the dashboard for different overlay options on your videos.

Setting Up Twist-to-Shoot Feature

Let me show you how to set up the twist-to-shoot feature. We need to enable it in the settings first. Swipe down to access settings, then swipe over to find the new icon at the top right-hand side and tap on it. Then enable twist-to-shoot.

DJI Osmo 360 NEW FEATURES Firmware Update

Once enabled, all you need to do to start capturing is twist the camera twice. You can see it will start recording. Another double twist will stop the recording. This feature is really beneficial when you have the camera mounted on an extension pole, eliminating the need to bring the camera close to you every time to start and stop recording—it’s a convenient way to operate the device.

You’ll know the feature is enabled by the small icon that appears at the top right-hand side of the screen, signifying that twist-to-shoot is active.

Distortion Correction Feature

I’ll show you a 360-degree video captured on the Osmo 360. One of the new features that many people will appreciate is the dewarping option, which you can see at the top of the screen. Looking at this frame, as soon as I turn on dewarping, you can see it eliminates much of the distortion. Notice how that tree now appears more natural.

However, this feature isn’t available in every perspective. For example, if I zoom way out, the option disappears. But when available, turning it on places objects like that tree at a more natural angle, which will really enhance your videos in many scenarios.

Conclusion

Those are the key firmware and software updates for the Osmo 360. As mentioned, as time goes on and DJI releases more firmware updates, I will continue making these videos for those who are on the fence and waiting to see what DJI does with the camera. This way, you can make an informed decision about when it’s the right time to purchase.

Hopefully, you enjoyed this video and found it valuable. Thanks for watching, and we’ll see you in the next one.
