DJI Augmented Reality teased in latest video from drone maker
DJI Augmented Reality might be coming to your DJI Goggles. At least, that's what the drone maker's latest teaser video seems to suggest.
DJI Global tweeted a 14-second video with the text, “But what if…”
The video continues to show the old DJI remote controller starting up with the familiar DJI jingle. Once the device is on, the magic happens. A tiny DJI drone hologram appears over the remote controller. In front of the remote controller, a large DJI becomes visible, as well as what seems to be information about the drone.
The drone itself is shown in the top left corner of the video. We see a DJI Mini 2, it seems, with augmented reality shown around the props as well as in front of the drone.
The DJI teaser video is very short, and the products shown are older DJI products, so it doesn't seem that we're seeing anything new here in terms of hardware.
However, what the video does show, is that DJI seems to think that there is a future for incorporating Augmented Reality (AR) into their aerial platforms. It is not hard to see how that could be very interesting and useful.
DJI Augmented Reality for real?
If DJI Augmented Reality becomes real and if it would require drone pilots to wear DJI Goggles while flying the drone, they will need an optical observer with them to make sure their drone flight is safe and Legal according to the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) drone regulations.
