DroneXL corrects errors of fact quickly and visibly. Getting it right matters more than looking like we got it right the first time. This page explains how to report an error and what happens once you do.
How to report an error
Email Haye Kesteloo at haye at dronexl dot co or use the contact page. Include the article's web address, the sentence or figure you believe is wrong, and, where you can, the source that shows the correct information. Reports are read by the editor, not a form handler, and every report gets a reply.
What happens when an error is confirmed
Factual errors are corrected in the article itself. A note at the end of the article states what was wrong, what it now says, and the date of the change. The article's updated date is changed so that readers and search engines can see the story was revised.
Errors that change the meaning of a story, such as a wrong company, a wrong figure that drove the headline, or a claim the source did not make, are corrected in the same way and also flagged at the top of the article, above the first paragraph, so that nobody reads the story without seeing the correction first.
Headlines that overstated or misstated the story are rewritten, and the change is recorded in the correction note.
Typos, formatting problems, broken links and missing credits are fixed without a note. They do not change what the article claims.
Opinion in the DroneXL's Take section is not corrected because a reader disagrees with it. If a Take rests on a factual error, the error is corrected and the Take is revised to match the corrected facts, with a note.
Unpublishing
DroneXL does not remove articles because a company, agency or individual dislikes them. An article is taken down only for a legal reason, a genuine safety concern, or because it was wrong in a way a correction cannot repair, and a removed article's web address explains why it was removed.
Updates that are not corrections
News moves. When a story gains new information after publication, such as a company response, a court ruling, or a corrected statement from a source, the article is updated, the updated date is changed, and the addition is marked in the text. That is an update, not a correction, and it is labeled as one.
Complaints about fairness
If you believe an article was unfair to you or your organization, or that a response you gave was not reflected, write to the same address. Responses received after publication are added to the article.
