Good day folks. Shawn here from Air Photography. If you’re brand new to the DJI Osmo 360, in this video I’m going to go over some accessories that you may want to consider. Of course, it’s going to depend on the activities and how you plan on using your 360 camera. Not all accessories are going to be useful to everyone.

YouTube video

Extension Poles

We’re going to start with extension poles because arguably, it’s probably one of the most common and useful tools that you’ll be using with your 360 camera.

Standard Extension Pole

If you purchase the Osmo 360 as a combo, this is the pole that you’re going to get with it. It is a 1.2-meter pole and it comes with a magnetic mount. If you purchase the camera just as a standalone camera, you can purchase this basic extension pole, and it does come with that magnetic mount. The magnetic mount that comes with it is really handy because it pivots. So if you’re going to be using this pole for vlogging with single lens mode, it just puts it at a more natural angle.

High Strength Carbon Fiber Pole

The next pole you may want to consider is their high-strength carbon fiber pole. It is a 1-meter pole, so it’s a little bit shorter than the standard one that comes with it, but this is a high-strength pole. This is going to be very beneficial if you’re going to be doing activities with a lot of high vibrations and forces, like connecting it to a motorcycle or mountain bike. You don’t have to worry so much about it breaking. Some of these standard poles are not really designed for those types of forces. It’s extremely lightweight and it’s going to be a really great choice for some people. I’ve used this on my dirt bike and my electric bike, and it works extremely well. Later in the video, I’m going to show you the mount I use in order to connect it. There are a couple of different ways in which you can do it, so that is definitely another one you may want to consider.

2.5-Meter Extension Pole

If you need a really long extension pole, they have this 2.5-meter extension pole. This is not going to be something you want to use for everyday filming. A pole this long can allow you to capture some really unique shots, almost mimicking the flight of a drone. It’s going to remain invisible in the shot, and you can get really creative. The nice thing about it is that even though it’s really long, if you’re just out handheld filming, you don’t have to put it all the way out if you just want to capture some more traditional shots. But then, of course, you can extend it to the full range if you want to get creative.

Compact 70cm Pole

This next extension pole from DJI is 70cm, so it’s a very short pole. It still has a good amount of reach, and the nice thing about this one is that it’s easily packable. So if you’re out just handheld filming for the day, you can put this whole thing with the camera right in your pocket or a small bag, unlike some of these other poles, which can get a little bit cumbersome if you’re not filming and you want to put your camera away. Something like this is just a lot lighter and easier to take along with you, so it might be a great addition to your kit.

Tripod Extension Pole

This one here is kind of interesting. This is kind of dual-purpose. This comes in at 1.6 meters, and really, it’s designed to be used as a tripod. However, when extended, it can still be used as a selfie stick. You can still walk around and do some handheld filming, but it has a built-in tripod that automatically ejects when this touches the ground. So if you’re out filming and you want to set the camera down and do some hands-free shots, all you have to do is touch that bottom to the ground and the tripod will automatically deploy. It’s a nice quick way to set the camera down and do some hands-free filming. It’s a little heavy and a little bit cumbersome, so primarily, if you’re going to be just doing handheld filming, one of these other poles is better suited. But if you want something multi-purpose that you can do a combination of handheld filming and set it down for hands-free filming, this might be a good option.

Battery Extension Rod

Lastly, here is an interesting product. I actually made a separate video about this already. This is DJI’s battery extension rod. It comes with a magnetic mount built right into it, and the nice thing about it is that it has leads on the camera and in the handle. So when connected, it’s going to add extra power to your camera for all-day filming. It extends as well to 90cm, so it has a good amount of reach. It has controls right on the handle for starting and stopping recording and changing filming modes, and it has a built-in swivel as well. So if you’re going to be filming in single lens mode and want to do some vlogging, it’s going to put the camera at a more natural angle. It’s a little bit bulkier than some of these other handles, but it’s still lightweight and easy to manage.

Magnetic Mounts

The next item you may want to consider is some magnetic mounts. As mentioned, if you do purchase the creator combo, it does come with this one mount. It can be attached to anything that has a 1/4-20, but the regular magnetic mounts that DJI sells for the Action 5 Pro and the Osmo Action 4 are fully compatible as well. So you may want to consider picking up some extra ones. That’s what makes magnetic mounting really convenient—if you have them attached to all your accessories, you can easily move your camera around from mount to mount.

Protective Lenses

The next item you may want to consider are these protective lenses for the Osmo 360. The Osmo 360 does not have user-replaceable lenses if they happen to get damaged. They just clip over the top like that. You can easily attach them and then remove them when they’re not needed.

For the most part, you don’t want to film all the time with these lens protectors. They can add artifacting and weird reflections in your videos depending on the sun and the way the sun reflects off them. But there are times if you’re going to be doing something where the camera could potentially take an impact, then you may want to consider installing the lenses. They go on easy, and when you’re done filming, they come off just as easy.

DJI GPS Remote

The next item here is the DJI GPS remote. This is not going to be a device for everybody. It can be used in a couple of different ways. First of all, it can just act as a remote. So if you have the camera mounted away from you, you can easily switch modes and start and stop recording. But it also has the feature of embedding GPS data into the videos, and that can be important for those who want to overlay GPS data on their videos when they export them. It can be really interesting visually to add some of those stats on top, and in order to do that, you do need some kind of GPS device. So something like this might be beneficial for some people. You can wear it around your wrist like a watch. It also comes with a smaller strap that you can wrap around something like a handlebar of a bike.

Microphones

The next item you may want to consider is a microphone for the camera. The DJI Osmo 360 fully supports Osmo Audio, so you can connect either something like the DJI Mic 3 or the Mic Mini wirelessly directly to the camera without the need for any other cables or receivers. Adding a dedicated microphone can really greatly increase the audio quality, and that can be very beneficial if you’re going to be using your Osmo 360 for vlogging or creating content for social media. For a lot of people, something like the Mic Mini might be a great choice just for the fact that it’s fairly inexpensive, has great sound quality, and has a nice small, minimal form factor.

Storage Case

If you’re looking for a case to store all your gear for your Osmo 360, DJI does sell this one here. There are a lot of other ones available on Amazon, but I thought I would show this one. It comes in at a reasonable price and there are two different ways to access it. They have this front compartment that allows you to just go in quickly and grab something out, or you can unzip the whole thing and have better access to the interior. The interesting thing about this case is that it kind of utilizes hard shell and soft shell. So this back part here is hard and rigid. That’s what’s going to protect your camera. It’s got a spot there for the battery charging hub and even a spot where you can store the extension pole with the magnetic mount attached. It’s held in place by Velcro there to keep it secure, and you’ve got other compartments here for storing other accessories. For some people, this might be a nice little case. It doesn’t have a shoulder strap, but it does have a carry handle here on the top.

Clamps and Mounts

DJI Multi-Use Clamp

The next item here, again from DJI, is a multi-use clamp, and it can be used in a couple of different ways. This is extremely heavy-duty, so people who are going to be mounting their camera on handlebars, on bikes, ATVs, or off-road vehicles will find something like this very beneficial.

There are a couple of different ways in which we can use it here. You can see it has two clamps on the end when you get it shipped to you. The reason it has two clamps on it is that this can also be used to stabilize an extension pole. For example, if you have an extension pole on a bike with a clamp, you might use this just to add some extra rigidity to the pole. So you’d have one end around a handlebar, the other end around the pole a little ways up just to keep it from bouncing around quite as much.

But the other way you can use it is just by loosening off that clamp there. You can pull out one clamp and then you have a choice of ends you can add. We have just a traditional finger GoPro mount, or we have a 1/4-20, which would be perfect for using it with the Osmo 360. So now we can attach our Osmo 360, attach the clamp to a handlebar or something similar. And it is articulating, so when this is loosened, we can adjust it into many different angles. Once we achieve the perfect angle, we can just lock it in.

Insta360 Clamp Alternative

When it comes to adding an extension pole to your handlebar because you want some extra reach, there’s a better clamp that I prefer to use myself. You could in theory use this. I haven’t tested it, so I don’t know how well it would work, but I’ll just show you the clamp that I use. This clamp here is by Insta360. When you purchase it, it also comes with a little wrench that allows you to really tighten it down. This is a really heavy-duty clamp. I’ve been using this one now for well over a year on some pretty rough terrain. I use it when I mount 360 cameras or even action cameras to my dirt bike, and you know, some of those trails get pretty rough, so you do have to be careful still. I usually will stop every 10 minutes just to double-check to make sure they’re nice and tight still. That’s where that wrench comes in—you can really lock them down.

It’s articulating, so you can adjust the angle as needed. It works really well when attached to a carbon fiber pole. You can have your camera just out a little bit, or you can extend it out as far as you need. Just keep in mind that there is a lot of weight bouncing around at the end, so you may not want to extend your camera as far as it will go, as you could run into some troubles. But that’s where these double-ended clamps come in. As you can see, you can have one end on your handlebar, have this on another bar on your bike, and that’s just going to make the whole setup a lot more rigid. For myself, if you are going to be mounting it to a handlebar of a mountain bike, dirt bike, or motorcycle, something like this clamp is something I highly recommend, and it is by Insta360.

Backpack Accessories

Backpack Holster

Another item I highly recommend—this is something I actually use quite a bit—is a backpack holster for 360 cameras. Again, this is by Insta360, but it is fully compatible with your Osmo 360. It’s really easy the way it works. It comes in two parts. This here is the holster part, and that goes around the strap of your backpack and clamps at the back there. So that just goes around the strap of your backpack. Then you take this part here, attach it to any extension pole with a 1/4-20, and then you attach that to your camera.

So when you’re out filming and you want to put your camera away, you can easily attach it to the holster. Now your hands are free, and when you want to start filming again, all you do is twist and it unlocks. It actually works really well. It’s really secure in there—it doesn’t come undone—and it’s always nice because your camera’s always at hand. The other nice thing is you can actually film while it’s attached to your backpack. You can just start recording and then you’re going to get some nice point-of-view shots. For some people, this might be a great little accessory, and it is compatible with pretty well any extension pole.

Third Person Backpack Mount

Another item you may want to consider if you do a lot of hiking and wandering around—this is again going to be a niche product, it’s not going to be of use to everybody—this is by Insta360 again, but it is fully compatible with your Osmo 360. This is called their third-person backpack mount. Essentially, this straps to the back of your backpack and you can walk around, and it’s going to give you that kind of third-person feel. So it’s great if you’re out exploring, doing some hiking. It’s just going to give you some really interesting perspectives. If you are a person who does a lot of hiking and you like uploading your hikes to social media, something like this may be something you want to consider.

Point of View Shots

Lastly, an item you may want to consider if you want to capture some point-of-view shots with your Osmo 360, especially when using single lens mode. Just due to it being completely compatible with the DJI magnetic mounting ecosystem, you can pretty well use it with any Osmo Action accessory, including their chest mount. As you can see, we can easily just attach it, and when filming in single lens mode, that’s going to get you some really engaging point-of-view shots. That’s kind of the nice thing about the Osmo 360—you can utilize it like a 360 camera, but you can also use it like a more traditional action camera when filming in single lens mode. When filming in single lens mode, most of these accessories for action cameras are fully compatible.
