Insta360 Luna First Look: Co-Engineered With Leica, This Might Be the Most Exciting Camera of 2026

This is the Insta360 Luna, and it’s been co-engineered with Leica. I think this might be one of the most exciting product releases of 2026, and I want to talk about why.
But first, you need to know a couple of things. One, this isn’t my Luna. It was sent to my friend Jevon Dovi, and he and I have been hanging out in the desert for the last few days testing this thing out. Two, this is still in beta. A lot of what you’ve seen maybe in other videos is going to change by the time the final firmware and the final version actually hits the market.
10-Bit I-Log Is a Big Deal in a Camera This Size
There are a couple of things that are really exciting to me about this camera. The first is the fact that Insta360 is putting 10-bit I-Log in it. I am super excited about that, and honestly, testing this camera out in a bunch of different situations, the footage looks really good.
Even though the camera is still technically in beta, what comes out of it — the amount of dynamic range, which Insta360 says is about 14 stops — is huge for a camera this size. The log profile actually looks really good. It’s pretty flat, it’s fairly easy to color grade, and it can give you some really, really good results.
One thing Jevon and I noticed when we started working with the log and playing with it in post is that it looks like Insta360 has taken the path, at least in this particular version of firmware, of keeping in-camera sharpening off or at least very, very minimal. So you get a lot of latitude to process the image and make it look the way you want in post — which is exactly the way a log profile should work. It should give you the most flexibility to manipulate the image and match it up to other cameras. Everything you’re seeing in this video shot with the Luna has been captured in the 10-bit I-Log color profile.
Multiple Focal Lengths Open Up the Compositional Toolkit
The second most exciting thing — or maybe it’s tied for first with the 10-bit I-Log feature — is the fact that we now have multiple focal lengths. That gives you a huge amount of flexibility in how you want to compose a shot or shoot a subject that’s far away and get lots of parallax in the background. As you can see, this camera actually has two different cameras and two different lenses on board.
Insta360 is going to be making two different versions of this camera, so you can pick whichever one best suits your needs. For me, having the multiple focal lengths is a game-changer because it means a camera this small and this easy to carry around just became way more useful in a lot of different situations.
A New Wireless Mic With an E-Ink Display and Three-Mic Array
Another really exciting thing that’s coming is this microphone, which has an e-ink display and a three-mic array. That means you get really good, really clean audio in a lot of different situations. It connects directly to Insta360 cameras like the Luna, and there will probably be other compatible cameras too — though it’s not finalized yet.
I’ve been blown away by how good this thing sounds in every situation we tried it out in. It gives you some incredibly clean audio, and it has magnetic clips so you can clip it onto your shirt. Yes, I will be doing a dedicated video about this mic as soon as I can, because it really is pretty impressive. That’s what you’ve been hearing the whole time in this video — so what do you think? Does it sound good?
1-Inch Sensor and f/1.8 Aperture Deliver Strong Low-Light Performance
Another exciting thing I was very curious about when I started seeing leaks about this camera: yes, it has a 1-inch sensor, which means much better low-light performance. It also has an aperture of f/1.8, which adds even more low-light capability. After testing this in a lot of different situations — especially in this canyon and around sunset — the low-light performance out of a camera this size is really impressive.
You have to keep in mind that this is a very small camera. A 1-inch sensor is still on the smaller side overall, but the performance you’re getting for the size and portability is awesome. I have to hand it to Insta360 — they’ve done an incredible job.
Gimbal Stabilization That Might Beat the Pocket 3
We’ve tested a ton of features in this camera, but I can’t talk about all of them yet because most are still very much in beta firmware. What I can say is that I’ve been wildly impressed with everything we’ve tested, even considering it’s still in beta. It is performing incredibly well in pretty much every situation we’ve tried it in.
One thing that surprised me is how good the gimbal stabilizes the footage, especially when you’re zoomed in at a much longer focal length. It stabilizes incredibly well for a handheld walk-around camera. In my opinion, it’s probably better than the Pocket 3 — it’s as good as any other stabilized gimbal camera or stabilized action camera I’ve ever used.
What Do You Think?
