The Mini 4K is DJI’s entry point: a 249-gram, registration-exempt (for recreational flyers) camera drone that routinely sells for under $300. The full spec table below comes from DJI’s official documentation; where DroneXL has real-world tested numbers, we show those too — because a spec sheet has never flown in wind. How it compares
The Mini 4K’s natural rivals are the Mini 2 SE it replaced and the Potensic Atom 2 at the same price. The single spec that separates it from the Mini 4 Pro is obstacle sensing: downward only, with nothing looking forward or sideways.
Frequently asked questions
Does the DJI Mini 4K need to be registered with the FAA?
Not for recreational flying — at 249 grams it sits under the FAA's 250-gram registration threshold. If you fly it commercially under Part 107, registration is required regardless of weight.
How far can the DJI Mini 4K fly?
DJI rates the O2 transmission system at up to 10 km (FCC). Real-world range in a typical suburb is far shorter, and US rules require you to keep the drone within visual line of sight — practically a few hundred meters.
Does the DJI Mini 4K have obstacle avoidance?
Only downward sensors for landing. There is no forward or lateral obstacle sensing — the biggest practical difference between the Mini 4K and the Mini 4 Pro, and the main reason beginners should fly it cautiously around trees.
