Scientists are using drones to study great white sharks along the coast of Southern California to improve their understanding of how these marine predators interact, and how to keep people safe.
Drone program in development to detect sharks along California coastline
A drone program is in development to detect mostly juvenile Great White Sharks along the California coastline. The program uses drones to collect aerial video footage and uses AI to analyze the video material and study the behavior of these sharks in relation to the presence of human beings, i.e. surfers, swimmers, etc.

This drone video shows Great White Sharks feeding off Padaro Lane near swimmers and surfers. The video was shot this past Sunday around 3 PM and shows at least four Great White Sharks feasting on a dolphin off Padaro Lane.
