Anduril’s new Ghost 4s drone uses AI to elevate warfare intelligence
Anduril‘s Ghost 4 drone, which resembles a small helicopter, can carry different payloads to accommodate for a wide range of missions such as jamming enemy communications, locate military installations, or use an infrared laser to direct weapons at a target.
Anduril, a defense-tech startup founded by Palmer Luckey, the creator of Oculus Rift brings AI to the battlefield. In its first generation, the Ghost 4s can perform a number of reconnaissance missions, including searching an area for enemy hardware or soldiers, reports Wired. The unmanned aircraft uses machine learning to analyze aerial images and identify potential targets.
According to retired brigadier general and a fellow at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, Kevin Ryan the military is interested in small drones as they can operate less expensively, faster, autonomously, and still gather the same intelligence as satellites or the much larger traditional military drones.
Anduril was founded by Luckey and some veterans of Palantir, a company that sells analytical software to the intelligence community. Wired reports that Anduril filed for an IPO last month and could possibly be valued as high as $20B. Prominent tech investor, Peter Thiel is one of the company’s backers.
All the components and parts that make up Andurils new Ghost 4s drone are either made in the USA or in allied Countries or could easily be replaced with parts that are.
